I like a lot of fans had high hopes for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Hey, who wouldn't be? I mean the trailer alone sold me on it, especially the Comic Con version that was uncensored. I was good to go. So, I checked it out of the Library about a year ago and I thought it was a pretty good movie, albeit with some flaws. So, I just got finished watching this again and those same flaws seem to really stand out more this time around.

If you are a fan of the character from the comic books or at least have been following the exploits of Wolverine in the X-Men films, the bulk of Origins tells the story that only got a little more than a cursory nod in X2: X-Men United. This one we get the "full" story of how Logan became 'Wolverine' through the Weapon X project and how he subsequently loses his memory that you see in full effect in the first two X-Men films.

The absolute best part about Origins both times I've watched this was the opening credit sequence. It was damn cool seeing Logan and Creed throughout the years fighting in all the different Wars that have gone on. If only the entire movie was framed around this, this could have been an epic movie. What we get is basically a by-the-numbers-forumula-movie that at times just goes through the motions. There are some cool Set pieces that are sure to thrill and wow you. But in the end, I think you will be left felling "what could have been" more than anything else. I don't like the film is as bad as most people like to say it is. It's still got some pop in it to warrant a Rental.

I didn't particularly care for what they did with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds). Kinda butchered that didn't they? Also, Remy / Gambit was woefully underused here. I think that Taylor Kitsch made a good Gambit and had the right kind of flair and humor for the part. It's just a shame his part was barely there. I do think that the cast of Liev Schreiber as Creed was a great choice and a superior upgrade from the actor that portrayed him in the first X-Men film.
