I love, love, love, love
Young Frankenstein. Every single part that makes up this awesome movie is nothing short of perfection and it all comes down to
Mel Brooks and his masterful direction style. Simply put, this movie looks amazing from it's set design, lighting and camera moves. There are a few scenes that are breathtaking in how they are lit. Wow. But what really makes this an ageless, timeless classic is of course the cast that includes
Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn, Kenneth Mars, Gene Hackman and the kick ass
Peter Boyle as
'The Monster'. Each and everyone adds something unique and memorable to their roles. Is it even possible to have 6 characters steal the same movie? Well, that's what you get here.
So many great lines and scenes to be had here that the movie itself is like watching a
Greatest Hits package by your favorite band or singer. Really hard to single out just one moment as a favorite. As I said, everyone is fantastic in the movie. The story is basically a spoof of the horror genre, more specifically the movies of
Boris Karloff. But the way that the film is shot, it really doesn't come off as a spoof at all.
Brooks did a phenomenal job and doesn't get enough credit for what he did here. I highly recommend this as a
Buy. I am fortunate that I actually got to see this in the theater as a little kid and experience the crowd reaction to the film. It was HUGE. This is a DVD that I NEVER will part with.
Interesting fact: Most people don't know that
Aerosmith got the name
"Walk This Way" from the scene involving
Marty Feldman as
Igor telling
Gene Wilder's character to do just that. How's that for changing the course of history?
