Rescue Me (Season 2)

I've always enjoyed watching Season 2 of Rescue Me, but that doesn't mean it ends in a satisfying way for me. The last two episodes always leaves me feeling depressed. When
Tommy (Denis Leary) and
Janet (Andrea Roth) have to bury their son, it's beyond sad and hard to watch. You have
Lou (John Scurti) who is the victim of a long con when he buys into the idea that this incredible looking woman, who just so happens to be an Escort, actually loves him, but is nothing more than her latest mark. And then there is
Sheila (Callie Thorne) who is the victim of battery from her new girlfriend. By definition this season is meant to be troubling in a lot of ways. The final straw is that
Laura (Diane Farr) quits the force is leaves. Ugh. There is also
Jerry (Jack McGee) having to deal with his wife getting Alzheimer's and it doesn't end well when she slits her throat in an attempted suicide. When he finally decides that the best thing to do is leave her at a Rest Home, it's heartbreaking.
With all these things going down at the tail end of the season, why do I subject myself to watching this season over and over? It's great writing and the characters and their stories are fascinating. I also really dig the small stories involving
Uncle Teddy (Lenny Clarke) and
Mike Gavin (Charles Durning). Their chemistry together is fun. Also, adding
Tatum O'Neal as
Maggie made absolute perfect sense as the sister in the
Gavin family. Definitely worth a
Rent.
