Best Fast Food Burger Joints
« on: October 17, 2012, 05:43:42 pm »
Okay, today was (still is) extremely hot. So hot that turning on the oven to cook up fries with my home cooked hamburger is out of the question. So, I went down to Jack In The Box to get me some fries to go with my Monster burger. Yum. With that, I thought of a new thread, the very one you are reading right now.

So, What's The Best Best Fast Food Burger Joint Ever? Each has it's pros and cons and some just suck no matter what. I can't vote for White Castle as it doesn't exist here and I have no idea what it's like, even though they sell frozen White Castle at VONS. Fatburger I had once and long time ago and remember nothing. Hard Rock Cafe I remember liking, but it was grossly overpriced and that too was years ago. For me the best Hamburger I've ever had at a restaurant per the price paid (under 5 bucks with unlimited refills and a HUGE salad) goes to Carrow's. This was in Vegas and a one time thing about 15 years ago. Never been to another Carrow's since then.

But I'm going to limit my choices to the others in the list. In-N-Out for me has the best Hamburgers and Milk Shakes, but the fries are meh. Jack In The Box has the best french fries and I love the Sourdough Jack, still to this day. Although their absolute BEST hamburger they ever had was the Bacon Cheese Burger with Black Seed Buns from the late 70's/early 80's. Why they decided to mess with the recipe and change it I'll never know. For it's still the biggest f*ck up they ever did. When it came time to go to JIB as a kid, THIS was the same thing I'd get every time and ranks up there with the Greatest ever for me.

Wendy's, I haven't eaten there a whole lot. Last time was maybe 15 years ago and it wasn't all that. Burger King, they give the best bang for your buck. Taste good and it's reasonably priced. Mickey Dee's, I use to eat there all the time as a kid with my Grandparents. Brings back fond memories, even if their menu now sucks. Haven't eaten there in years.

So, I would say that Quality + Value = In-N-Out

FYI, I don't eat out a whole lot. I'm putting this thread and list together over many many years of eating at different restaurants.

Oh jeez, we have White Castles everywhere. Some think its the best. I will admit they are best for the late night drunk runs. None better. I really don't like them just to eat. They have a very distinctive taste and more so... Smell.

I'm not a big hamburger fan. I do hate those cookie cutter, pre-made burgers. That's just low. Our Steak N Shake are nice thin burgers with a crispy edge, which is rather tasty, but I really don't dream about getting burgers

White Castle started in Jersey right? And since I've never seen one on the West Coast, I still take it that it's a East Coast Chain. I've never really be compelled to get the frozen ones. I can't imagine them even coming close to tasting the same from a legit outlet.

The die Hards would probably disagree. Get it any way they can. I've heard stories of people who moved away and will take frozen just to get their fix. Fresh made is good. I wouldn't know about frozen. Heard if you heat it right, it comes close.

Well then, since I don't see myself heading to the East Coast anytime soon, I guess I will try out the frozen White Castle. On the box, I remember it looking tiny.

That's what she said.

Seriously, the frozen package makes it look like finger foods.

I can't believe Five Guys isn't even on the ballot  It's pretty much the only "fast food" place I eat at anymore.  And really, they're the only fries I can think of that you can pop in the fridge, reheat later, and still have them taste good.

Added to the Poll. Now you have no excuse not to vote. And do the same over here as well. We actually have a Five Guys here. Until you brought it up, I had no idea that it was even a nationwide chain. I was certain it was some local 'Mom and Pop' store since I have never seen or heard of any commercials for it.

It started off as one.  It's kind of amazing that they don't need advertising, people just know it (thought that picture of Obama and/or Biden at one during the election probably helped a bit).  Although isn't In-N-Out local?

I don't know how (or if at all) this factors into your considerations, but I had a surprisingly lousy (and cold) Five Guys dinner yesterday, but since I ordered for two I got the large fries so there were more than enough to save and reheat... and you put 'em in an oven and reheat they taste great.  How many other places on the list is that even an option?

I find Five Guys remarkably underwhelming. Hey, it's a chain with bags and boxes of potatoes in the dining area.

Went there once, that was enough.

I just find chain burger joints, just what they are. Not much to see here.

So it this a Burger joint first or a Pizza joint? Whenever I walk by, I usually smell Pizza cooking the majority of the time.

Pizza?

Didn't even notice.

I'd say burger because of said bags of potatoes they 'decorate' with.  :-\

Yeah, they have the same "set dressing" here as well, which I always thought was a bit odd, kinda like they were too lazy to finish storing their food in the back after deliveries.
