Windowless Airplane Will Give Passengers High-Res Panoramic Views

Quote
You don’t need a window for these views. Paris-based design company Technicon Design recently won an award for their IXION Windowless Jet Concept. The idea is to provide a 360-degree view using cameras mounted on the plane’s exterior to capture the scenery and then project that on high-res screen on the interior cabin walls and ceiling.

And actually any scene could be displayed on the interior. Let’s say the view is mostly clouds or ocean. How about displaying a rainforest? A flight through the Grand Canyon? A trip to the Moon?

Solar panels on the exterior would help power the displays.

Removing windows has its advantages, too. It reduces the materials and cost needed as well as reducing the weight of the plane. Not having windows allows for a greater flexibility of the interior design of the aircraft, too.

“The ethos of the project is simple, to challenge current thinking, and propose something a little different, but not just a fantasy. It has to be credible and relevant, yet provoke discussion,” design director Gareth Davies said in a press release.

Nice find. Sometimes I do wonder what it is you're typing into search to find these unique video clips.  ;D

That is amazing.  This is something I've really been digging recently, computer effects becoming part of the real world through things like projection.   When the face turns into a robot?  Amazing. This is totally up my alley, that idea of being "in the movie," imagine that moment was going to happen in the flick, but you could actually SHOW it to the actors when it happens for the first time?

The windowless jet thing would be cool except for the fact that you're spending most of your time above the clouds, where there's really not too much to see.  Beautiful view, for sure, but after a while.  And what if you want to close the window to get some sleep?

I'd be for this idea if they could mix it up with some new cabin designs, if we don't need windows, maybe we don't need to be in those claustrophobic little rows.

Most of these things are 'fed' to me through Zite. It's been my number app. I customize the subjects I want to look at. Lots of these articles then pop up in my daily (twice daily actually) reads. I email the article to myself so I can later post it.

Forget texting in a movie theater, stay home!  And forget getting a giant plasma TV, THIS is how you get a home theater experience at home... until your neck snaps from supporting all that weight.  I've been waiting since I was a KID for someone to invent this!

I think we need an Oculus specific thread since our discussion about it is popping up in numerous thread. And as the new tech catches on, talk of it is only going to increase. What do you guys think? I want to play Alien Isolation using the device.

Of the new tech's, I think this has some potential. I find it extremely interesting.

I've had this idea for work since the innovation of CAD (computer aided drawing). My early years here at Boeing consisted of making drawings for the shop guys to put stuff together. The concept is simple. Put on the glasses, headset, Occulus at the station you work, and what's displayed are the parts you will be attaching.... virtually.

Personally, I wouldn't embrace it to much, because it's something you strap onto your face.

Yeah, except it looks like it's designed so that the person on the swing doesn't get wet.

German Traffic Light Uses Pong To Deter Jaywalking - IGN News

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5FhGdVFUQ4

I forgot to post this last night. Better late than never. I think the concept is unique. I know I'd be more than willing to play whatever game it had instead of jaywalking. But I doubt this ever makes it to US soil. Would cost too much to upgrade all of our Stop Lights and we all know how cheap our Government is when it comes to upgrading current things in existence.
