The sad part is it was hackers.... why couldn't our defense industry do this... long ago.

'Isil is a virus, we are the cure': Hackers say they’ve taken down 100 Isil Twitter accounts

Hacktivist group Anonymous has delivered a blow to Islamic State by disabling dozens of Twitter accounts it believes are used to recruit fighters.

In an online post titled '#OpISIS' the group lists the Twitter handles of 90 users it has ‘taken offline’ and claims these they are just some of the accounts removed by its team.

The group also lists the full URLs of 12 Facebook users it says are suspected to have been in contact with terrorists in Syria and Iraq, to “keep an eye on”.

Most of the accounts listed are currently suspended or unavailable.

In their online statement Anonymous also issued a warning to Isil, detailing plans to systematically erase and expose their extremist affiliates:

Quote
“We will hunt you, Take down your sites, Accounts, Emails, and expose you... From now on, no safe place for you online... You will be treated like a virus, And we are the cure...”

The comments were posted on Pastebin - a website used by Anonymous and other hackers to post about their hacks.

The statement also linked to a YouTube video, explaining more about the online attack (watch at the top of the article).

Anonymous reminded Isil that members of their collective hail from from religions and countries all over the world.

"We are Muslims, we are Christians, we are Jews, we are hackers... We come from all races, countries, religions, and ethnicity.

"We are hackers, crackers, hacktivists, phishers, agents, spies, or just the guy from next door. We are students, administrators, workers, clerks, unemployed, rich, poor.

"We are young, or old, gay or straight. We wear smart clothes or Uggs. We come from all races, countries, religions, and ethnicity. United as one, divided by zero. We are Anonymous".

They signed off with the promise that there is “More to come soon”.

Anonymous have carried out a number of high-profile cyber attacks in recent months.

They targeted Israeli government websites and briefly brought down the homepage of a Jerusalem-based bank in retaliation for Israeli attacks on Gaza.

The collective took over the official Ku Klux Klan Twitter account and threatened to leak the details of those behind it.

In the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attack the hacktivists vowed to avenge the cartoonists' deaths by shutting down jihadist websites.
