Huh, didn't see this coming? Dumbasses. Be careful what you wish for.

Fearing Rising Backlash, NRA Urges Gun Activists to Stand Down

Quote
A gun rights activist group known as Open Carry Texas and the National Rifle Association are at odds over the demonstrative act of openly carrying weapons in public places.

Open Carry Texas has made a name for itself by carrying rifles in populated areas like restaurants. As a result, Applebee's, Jack in the Box, Starbucks, Wendy's, and most recently Chipotle, Chili's and Sonic have banned firearms, according to Fox News.

Open Carry Texas' controversial demonstrations evoked criticism from the NRA, who said that these activists have gone from exhibiting zealousness to "downright foolishness."

"Texas, independent-minded and liberty-loving place that it is, doesn't ban the carrying of loaded long guns in public, nor does it require a permit for this activity. Yet some so-called firearm advocates seem determined to change this," the NRA wrote in a statement on Friday. "Let's not mince words, not only is it rare, it's downright weird and certainly not a practical way to go normally about your business while being prepared to defend yourself. ... the dubious practice of using public displays of firearms as a means to draw attention to oneself or one's cause, it can be downright scary. It makes folks who might normally be perfectly open-minded about firearms feel uncomfortable and question the motives of pro-gun advocates."

In response, C.J. Grisham, Open Carry Texas founder, said he is determined "to prove to the Legislature that we're not yahoos or weird or anything like that" and won't stop demonstrating.

"On a personal level I'm extremely disappointed, and I'll be the first to cut up my NRA membership cards," the 40-year-old told Houston Chronicle.

Open Carry Texas also fired back at the NRA via Facebook and their blog.

"It is unfortunate that an organization that claims to be dedicated to the preservation of gun rights would attack another organization fighting so hard for those rights in Texas. The fact is that the NRA hasn't been able to get open carry passed in Texas ...," the group said. "The real ignorance in their statement is that it was completely unnecessary."

In addition, two well-known Texan gun rights activists are criticizing Open Carry Texas' tactics as well, saying the group is hurting chances of an open carry bill passing in 2015.

"I have told the groups that I have talked to not to do this right now. This could be harmful in getting it passed," state Rep. George Lavender, a Republican from Texarkana who has tried to pass open carry legislation twice, told Houston Chronicle. "At this point when we have everything lined up to pass, why take a chance on bad publicity to set us back?"

"It's actually probably hurting," Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson added.

Will Making Guns Sexy Help The NRA Sell To Women?

I say no. I think there is more to the idea of owning a gun beyond how it "looks". And if any woman owned a gun because of looks, I'd seriously be concerned about what is in their heads. Same goes for men. "Ooooooh, looking me twirling this gun because it looks cool!" BAM! Call 911.....

Kids and Guns: How Young Is Too Young to Learn How to Shoot?

I feel really bad for the little girl. She's going to be traumatized for the rest of her life. As for the parents, I'm furious at them. Seriously, what the f*ck is the mindset to let a kid hold, let alone shoot a weapon? Their rationale is flawed. So, Parents think they are doing the "responsible" thing by educating their kids when they start asking questions about firearms and to better prepare them, allow them to go to gun ranges and shoot at targets. By that logic, when a 9 year old starts asking about sex, that means they should be given a condom and sent to a brothel and what not to better prepare themselves. Yeah, no parent would do that (unless they are sick f*cks themselves). See, it doesn't make sense for the kids. The Parents are projecting onto them their own feelings about guns. When I hear stories like this, it gets me super p*ssed.

Agree’d. So pissed my eye are red with anger. So there were several adults who found this acceptable. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Like one poster said, it’s cute to see a little girl driving down the road in a truck, but I wouldn’t want to be in the passenger seat or around the truck.

There is absolutely no value in letting that girl be there in that particular situation.

This recent story is so sad, yet sickening...

‘The gun didn’t kill my boy — I did’: Father accidentally shoots son during target practice

Quote
Fourteen-year-old Stephen Brumby was quietly waiting for his turn to shoot.

His father, William C. Brumby, was up first, stepping into the last shooting lane at High Noon Gun Range, aiming a Ruger SR22 and squeezing the trigger, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

A hot shell casing hit the range wall and flew into the elder Brumby’s shirt.

He instinctively reached around with his right hand — which was still holding the .22 semiautomatic handgun, police said.

While trying to fish out the shell casing, he fired again, this time accidentally.

“Dad, Stephen’s been shot,” his other son shouted, according to the newspaper.

Brumby later told the Tampa Bay Times that the bullet struck his 14-year-old son’s jugular vein during the family’s target-shooting practice Sunday afternoon.

The teen was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he died, authorities said.

But wait, there's more. They set up a Go Fund Me campaign to help with the burial. WTF!!!!

I saw the headline for this story yesterday. I chose not to go any further. I didn't want to be depressed the rest of the day.
