Every article about this sort of thing should have smart ads that lead to "theater quality TVs at home" because DANG, that's the perfect marriage of content and advertising.

You know what would make that video be more interesting and entertaining?  Text from random other people all over it, distracting me while I was trying to watch it (actually i didn't even watch it because we already talked about this)

It's hard to fathom this is back and might become a thing.

AMC CEO Says Company Is Mulling Over Text-Friendly Movie Theaters

Quote
It was once the cardinal sin of movie theater lovers -- texting during a film.

Movie previews creatively reminded and suggested and pretty much ordered folks to turn off their cell phones before a film begins, but are text-friendly movie theaters on the way?

AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron said the movie theater chain is set to test it out to appeal to millennials.

"When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow. You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life," he told Variety.

Instead of a text-friendly section in a movie theater, Aron suggests that AMC will take "specific auditoriums and make them more texting friendly."

If you're upset with even the thought of a cell phone's blue light disrupting your movie-watching experience, don't fret. Aron, 61, said he's keeping traditional movie-watching in mind.

"At the same time, though, we’re going to have to figure out a way to do it that doesn’t disturb today’s audiences," he said. "There’s a reason there are ads up there saying turn off your phone, because today’s moviegoer doesn’t want somebody sitting next to them texting or having their phone on."

Aron echoed the same sentiment, and seemed to quell backlash against his concept of new text-friendly movie theaters, on Twitter.

"Press reported we['re] considering a test allowing texts in a VERY FEW screens. We know vast majority of audience wants no texting," he said today. "IF ever, we ONLY would pursue in a way we'd be TOTALLY confident ALL our guests will fully enjoy movie going experience at AMC."

In a statement today to ABC News, AMC explained that movie lovers shouldn't expect any changes in the near future, saying "there is no specific timeframe as to when we might introduce such a test, if ever."

"We would only introduce a concept like this when we are totally confident that we can fully satisfy the desires of our current guests," the statement added.

Well, that was quick... and smart.

Sorry millennials: AMC drops idea to allow texting in some movie theaters

Quote
Moviegoers have spoken and AMC's proposal to open texting-friendly theaters "has been sent to the cutting room floor," the company said Friday.

Adam Aron, the new CEO of the movie theater chain, had mobile-addicted millennials in mind when he mentioned the idea in an interview with Variety published Wednesday.

But now cinema lovers will have to continue to pocket their phones during the two-hour movie experience.

"In the age of social media, we get feedback from you almost instantaneously and as such, we are constantly listening," Aron wrote in Friday's statement. "Accordingly, just as instantaneously, this is an idea that we have relegated to the cutting room floor."

Aron had previously told Variety that when a 22-year-old is told to turn off the phone, they hear "please cut off your left arm above the elbow."

However, it appears that mobile addicts will have to make due in the theater. Aron insisted that AMC will have other ideas "to delight and entertain you."

"We'll continue to be as creative as we can to elevate the AMC experience, doing so in partnership with you, our guests, and never in a way that will compromise your love of coming out to the movies," Aron said.

good gawd, this shows you how this 'texting' has become an addiction... How else do you explain people having the need to address their little rectangular box to function in life?

Orlando shooter texted wife during attack, source says

The Orlando shooter and his wife exchanged text messages during the Pulse nightclub rampage, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told CNN.
Around 4 a.m. on June 12, about two hours after he started the attack and while holed up in a bathroom, Omar Mateen texted his wife, Noor Salman, asking if she'd seen the news, the official said.

At one point, she responded with a text saying that she loved him. Salman also tried calling her husband several times during the standoff, a second law enforcement official said.
The timing of her calls came after reports of the attack had emerged, and apparently after she realized her husband might be responsible. He didn't answer, the official said.
It's not clear if Salman made any attempt to report her husband during that time.

I'm really stumped why everyone in the news media is exonerating the wife based on these texts as proof she had nothing to do with premeditation of the massacre. I'm of the mindset that they agreed beforehand that he would send her texts in the middle of the shooting to give her an "alibi" as long as she played her part and acted clueless as to what he was doing. Seriously, he calls everyone else, but leaves text messages only for her? You see how suspect that is. With texts, she doesn't have to "act",which is risky if she doesn't sell it the right way if there is a phone call that they can analyze after the fact. So yeah, I'm calling bullsh*t on this alibi.
