Well here two WTF articles related to cinema...

Young movie goers are totally OK with texting in movie theaters

Quote
Well, I guess this means I’m officially old. I detest any cell phone use while out to see a movie but apparently them youngins’ think it’s just swell. The Hollywood Reporter conducted a poll to figure out how Americans discover and consume entertainment and found out social media is huge (obviously) and that a lot of people would prefer a theater in which you were not only allowed, but encouraged, to text. And to them I say, “Get off my lawn!”

THR asked the market research firm Penn Schoen Berland to help them conduct the poll on entertainment. The write, “Nine of 10 respondents view social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook as a new form of entertainment, and more than half say social media sites are important tastemakers in determining what to watch and buy. Perhaps more surprising, 80 percent of television viewers visit Facebook while they watch.”

The first part certainly makes sense to me. You see what your friends and family are talking about and if it sounds interesting to you, you’ll probably give it a try. But why are people on Facebook while they’re watching television or movies? It just sounds distracting to me.

The findings were based on a survey of 750 social network users ages 13 to 49. But “the poll found that a majority of 18-to-34-year-olds believe using social media while watching a movie in a theater would add to their experience, and nearly half would be interested in going to theaters that allowed texting and web surfing,” they write. Coincidentally, there’s a concert hall being built in Washington state that is planning on allowing texting during their performances.

Theaters will charge premium on 2D movies to recoup expense on 3D movies

Quote
Writing for Screen Trade Magazine Joe Paletta, CEO of Spotlight Theaters, announces that cinemas will begin to eliminate the premium charges on 3D movies and raise the prices of 2D movies to make up the difference. This gives me the rage. 3D movies give me a headache and eye-strain, and I actively avoid them. I hate the idea that I'd be charged a premium on the few 2D movies I can find in order to subsidize 3D screenings.

As Roger Ebert put it, "Oh, no! In a move to recoup their unwise investment in 3D, theaters discuss, and I quote, 'patrons will have a single price for both 2D and 3D films. 2D prices will increase and 3D prices will decrease.' In other words, punishing those who dislike 3D."
Among the bigger changes will probably see the 3D-upcharge disappear. 3D charges will help increase the overall ticket-price but, as an industry, I think we’ll see a blend begin to emerge in 2012, where patrons will have a single price for both 2D and 3D films. 2D prices will increase and 3D prices will decrease.

Again, I don’t get it but maybe I’m just the old fart who doesn’t understand technology. Are we going to have to have texting and no-texting showings now? I know there’s still a lot of people who are opposed to cell phone use in theaters but if the trend continues I wouldn’t be surprised if things eventually went that route.

“Millennials want their public moviegoing experience to replicate their own private media experiences,” said pollster Jon Penn.“Having dedicated social-media-friendly seats, or even entire theaters, can make the moviegoing experience more relevant and enjoyable for them.”

If people are THAT  f u c k i n g  gung-ho to text during a movie, then you have to ask yourself "why the  f u c k  are you paying money to watch a movie that you're not even watching"?  F u c k i n g  idiots!!!! It has nothing to do with being old and everything to do with stupidity.

Example Text: OMG!! I'm in the theater and I'm not even watching it!!! I know, I'm so fly!!! LOL! What u doin' 2nite?

Me: Shut the  F U C K  up and spell like a normal person! And if you can't understand that, then let me retort you this, you  f u c k i n g  imbecile........I H8 You!!!

As for raising prices for 2D movies, go for it. I don't  f u c k i n g  care because I don't go to movies anymore, so there is no way they are getting my money anyway. Suck it "Big Chain Movie Theater"!!

I think the texting thing goes back to short attention span, but more to the idea they think they can multi-task.

I still contend they cannot.

WTF Spike Lee?

Couple lives in fear after their address tweeted as George Zimmerman's

Quote
A couple in Sanford, Fla., is afraid for their lives after people posted their home address on Twitter and said it was that of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who shot dead Trayvon Martin.

The mistake reportedly has forced David and Elaine McClain, a couple in their 70s whose home is about four miles from where Martin was shot, to flee to a hotel.

"My youngest son, his last name is Zimmerman and his middle name is George," Elaine McClain told ClickOrlando.com, but that's all they have in common.

Among those retweeting the couple's address was film director Spike Lee, who has nearly 250,000 followers on Twitter.

"He definitely owes a big apology," McClain added. "All this is really scary and it's a shame. There's no reason they put our address out there without checking to see who lived there."

On Monday, the McClains called police after receiving an envelope with writing that tied it to the Martin case.

Police promised to increase patrols in their Sanford neighborhood, the McClains said. But as a precaution, they have fled to a hotel, Chip Humble, one of their sons, told the Orlando Sentinel.

"We're afraid for our lives," Elain McClain said.

William George Zimmerman, the son whose name led to the errant tweet, said he wasn't sure how his parents' address was tracked down, but he noted that he lived there briefly after college and had used the address to register a car, get a driver's license and vote, according to the Sentinel.

F u c k  Spike Lee!! I enjoy most of his movies, but I hate the guy and the "moral" high ground he professes to stand on.

Spike Lee apologizes to Florida couple for retweeting their address

Quote
Film director Spike Lee has apologized to a Florida couple after he retweeted an address that was described as the home of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who shot Trayvon Martin.

The mistake forced David and Elaine McClain, a couple in their 70s whose home is about four miles from where Martin was killed, to flee to a hotel.

The McClains demanded an apology of Lee, who has nearly 250,000 followers on Twitter.

Technolog: How did Spike Lee get it wrong?

"He definitely owes a big apology," McClain told the Orlando Sentinel. "All this is really scary and it's a shame. There's no reason they put our address out there without checking to see who lived there."

Late Wednesday, Lee made the apology via Twitter, saying he deeply apologized and urged people to "leave the McClain's [sic] in Peace."

Some Twitter members have been sending Lee angry and often racist tweets in response to his sharing of the address, many of which he has retweeted.

I can't help to think how 'tweeting' is so shallow. Not only on the mind numbing statements, but the horrible comments made too without any thought.

Which pushed further, the apology means zip and it's insincere.

School bans disabled girl from using walker

WTF!!!

Is our country losing it's mind. People melting down. Stupid @ss responses from a school?

Quote
Kristi Roberts was stunned when school officials insisted that her disabled 5-year-old daughter switch to a wheelchair from the walker she’d been using for the previous two years. Little LaKay had battled cerebral palsy and epilepsy since she was born, and Kristi had worked hard to get her little girl up out of the wheel chair and walking – she couldn’t believe that the school was now taking away their hard-earned progress.

Kristi explained her position to NBC’s Janet Shamlian.

“If she can walk now, please let her walk,” Kristi said. “Don’t strap her in a wheelchair. We’ve worked so hard. She has worked so hard.”

When Kristi tried to make her case, officials from the New Caney Independent School District weren’t moved. They insisted that because LaKay had fallen down in the school’s parking lot – when she was with her mom – it wasn’t safe for the little girl to use a walker.

The Texas mom wasn’t going to take no for an answer. She recorded a conversation with a school official (with his knowledge) and then posted the conversation on YouTube for the world to hear:

“Basically she can’t use the walker because we don’t believe it’s safe,” the school official explained on the tape.

When Kristi pushed for an explanation, the official got huffy and responded derisively, “We’re gonna not do what the mother wants us to do – be sure to get this on tape.”

Kristi was astounded. “I am a parent and you are an employee that’s supposed to be an advocate for this child,” she said. “And from day one, you have not.”

The school official wasn’t budging.

“It’s up to a court to decide then,” he said.

“Oh, you really want to go there?” Kristi retorted.

“Yes ma-am. Yes ma-am.”

Kristi adopted LaKay at birth and was told shortly after that the little girl would probably never walk or talk. Kristi wasn’t going to stop at that prognosis. She took it as a challenge and worked with her little girl -- and her efforts have paid off.

Kristi says that LaKay’s language skills are developing and for the past two years she’s been using the walker instead of a wheelchair.

For its part, the New Caney school district argues that it has always had LaKay’s best interests at heart. They say they have not yet received her doctor’s OK for the little girl to use the walker without the leg braces she used to wear.

“The decision was arrived at by this child’s special education team was that the child would be evaluated further and that there would be more information forthcoming from her private physicians and therapists to make sure she was being served safely and appropriately before the use of the walker continued,” said the district’s attorney, Paula Roalson.

Kristi vows to continue to fight for her daughter.

“She deserves the best life she can live,” Kristi told Shamlian. “And nobody can define that but her.”

What a sad, sad day for movie news...

Good Lord

This is worse than the 3 Stooges actually being made... wait, no it's not. OK, maybe this should go under "FAIL", but then again, some of the public may think this is 'hilarious'.

'Twins' sequel in works with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, Eddie Murphy
Quote
Is the world ready for a sequel to "Twins"?

Universal and Montecito Picture Co. are hoping to develop a doozy of a follow-up to the 1988 hit comedy that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito that would reunite the two stars.

But wait, there’s a twist: In the new scenario, Eddie Murphy would act as a third brother.

Titled "Triplets," the story would see Schwarzenegger and DeVito as brothers Julius and Vincent, conceived experimentally, who discover they have third sibling.

The project doesn’t have a director at this early stage -- Ivan Reitman, who helmed the original, would only act as a producer with his Montecito Picture Co. cohorts Joe Medjuk, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell, according to sources -- but the hunt is on for writers to develop the idea. Insiders caution that no substantial creative discussions have taken place between Universal and Montecito.

The actors are attached to star.

This wouldn’t be the first sequel to an 1988 film that Universal is working. The studio is developing a sequel to "Midnight Run" that sees Robert De Niro, one of the film’s two original stars along with Charles Grodin, returning in an incarnation to be directed by Brett Ratner.
