DJI - Introducing the DJI Mavic
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1d_ptE6yrc
Well, since my interests in drones is now getting serious to the point of dropping some hard cash on one, it's high time we have a thread for Drones. Starting with the DJI, based on Casey's review of it here. HUGE BONUS for the Mavic is its tracking mode. No need to wear a bracelet or anything to get the Mavic to follow your every move. They show a brief clip of how it works and it reminds me of how the Tracking worked in After Effects. Same kind of tech. As for the price, it really depends on who or where you buy it from. I've seen a couple of sites offering pre-orders at $1k and other's at $1,300.

I'll be following what you do on this project.
Love this stuff, but not ready to get one myself at this point in my life.
Concentrating on health, bikes and music still.

Didn't see if this is a duplicate post...
Would have been better to compare a less cloudy day with better color definition.

DJI MAVIC: 4K Test Footage and My Thoughts On The Drone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tthf4guYCo
The video you just posted Mac, that's actually Casey's followup Vlog where he addresses one big issue with the quality of the film. I watched it last night and was really disappointed in the end result. It's just way to soft to my liking. Casey even says that the Phantom IV is the superior to the Mavic in regards to 4k footage. And then I saw the review by Michael Shainblum this morning and apparently everyone, including Casey, doing their own review for the product is unaware that there is a Manual Focus option that you have to enable which corrects the 'Soft' look. Check out the video and marvel at just how much of an improvement it is. Highly detailed and has reaffirmed my desire to get this drone. But the one thing I find puzzling is that you would even have to enable it. Seriously, why isn't this a default setting or option? Anyone paying over $1k for this is getting it for the highest quality possible. It's like buying a brand new car, but driving it off the lot using the spare tire from the trunk instead. Go figure.

Man, I'm thinking about cameras.... my current "nice" camera is almost ten years old, no HD features... and I'm going to Sicily next year with the fam, going to see my childhood home again, and I feel like that warrants a nice camera. Tempted to look after the new year.
