Your router - Part 1
« on: April 14, 2012, 11:20:59 am »
Many people nowadays use routers to share their internet with others and allow wireless internet access. This has greatly helped many people over the years because it's convenient. Using routers come with a price however...
There are two problems that people have been constantly getting with routers. The first one is that it increases latency, this is a big problem since low latency is crucial for action-packed and fast paced games. The second problem is a port getting blocked, disallowing some programs and games to operate correctly.
The very first process that you'll want to do is to move any electronics between your computer and your router. Things like TVs, microwaves, and phones can cause interference with your router's ability to send out a wifi signal. If you can't do that, move your router or your computer, it's that simple.
If your router is close to your computer, consider buying an ethernet cord to plug into your computer. By doing this, you'll greatly reduce latency and won't have to worry about choppy signal. You might also gain better downloading speeds by doing this too!
