The sticker price doesn't help, but I think the real reason why there are so few adopters is that it's extremely invasive of other people's space and privacy, which of course has led to assault's when they refused to remove their glasses when they are in a place that they are not wanted. Even if they tell people they are not recording, it's still invasive. No one is gonna trust some stranger to not record.
