I'd be all over those VR TV headset things... when will those be ready for prime-time?

Apparently I have the newest TV of anyone here, it's only maybe five years old or more.  It's bigger than my last one that I got in college and works fine, but I keep thinking it's a little small (it isn't, I think I calculated the right size for my room, I just THINK it's a little small).  I keep my eyes peeled for the next drool-worthy TV to replace it, though-- I'm looking for a non-smart TV (I don't like those, they spy on you) with  USB ports, multiple HDMI inputs (so I don't have to keep unplugging and replugging my boxes like a tool) and that motion smoothing action, I know most people don't like that but I kinda do.  At least, I'd like the option.  I really want a nice screen though, my sister got a big cheap TV like the ones they have at hotels and it's not that awesome.

I think what's gonna happen is probably we'll upgrade the TV in the living room first, and then I'll just take the big living roomTV and put it in my room.

Agree... the VR thing could be really cool. Talk about being immersed. Like Headphones but for the eyes.

Count me as one who hates that smoothing setting.  >:(

I bought a Samsung 42" about 2-3 years ago. I absolutely love it. It replaced my wife's old tube TV which sits in the cubby opening above the fireplace. I know... sucks. But believe me there is no other option. Have to live with it.

Don't know if I told you, but I bought a soundbar/woofer for it a few weeks back. Best Buy's Yellow Tag event was trying to get rid of display and out of box merchandise. The Vizio soundbar was buried in between all these large screens. They said it was out of box, but when I opened it, it appeared never out of the box. sealed up tight.

One of the best investments I've made.

I have a hard time watching TV without headphones on, I'm actually kicking myself for not looking for wireless ones for the living room set last time I was at Best Buy.  I'll be doing that when I go looking for Blu-Rays in a few weeks (gotta get that new Game Of Thrones season, you know).  So headphones for the eys, they'd be great.

My take on the motion smoothing is this: I was actually pretty down on the tech when I first saw it, I thought the same thing everyone else did, the whole "security camera" looking "soap opera" thing.  But then I went to Universal Studios and did the rides, and now the motion smoothing to me looks like a big amusement park ride.  And even though I thought (especially on the big screen) that the camera movements and cutting were way too fast, I felt like I was actually IN Middle Earth when I saw the first Hobbit movie.  SO sharp, so real.  I saw clips of Avengers and Transformers 2 in motion smoothing on big plasma TVs and it felt like I could reach out and touch it, it didn't feel like I was watching frames as a fast rate, it felt like I was looking through a window.  It was more 3D than putting the glasses on to me.  And Transformers 2, I actually had a sense of the robots being physical objects and not digital schmultz on the screen, I can't stress this enough: it made Michael Bay's garbage look decent.

I might not have it on all the time if I actually got it (I don't know how I'd feel about it long-term), but for now, I'm more than willing to give it a shot because it lets me see movies in a different light, and I'm all about that.

Samsung's 105 Inch Curved UHD TV Priced at $120,000 - IGN News

$120k. F*cking ridiculous! Way to price it for the masses. Dipsh*t! I don't get the mindset of these people. They know that when they set the price, they are alienating a huge percentage of the population. And they also know that once it doesn't sell, they will have to drastically reduce the price. So, why go through all this song and dance if they know that at the end of the day it cost too much.....even for rich people.

Think how big 105 inches is.  This isn't for people in their homes.  This is for office lobbies, receptions, hotels... corporate money.

Well, it's official. My TV is DOA. Will not turn on. A few post back I had mentioned that it was taking longer and longer for it to power up. A couple of days ago it reached the 12 hour mark. That's half a day of waiting. I was expecting this to happen, but I thought I'd have another month or so just based on how it was progressing. Anyway, this couldn't have come at a worst time with New and Returning Shows starting tomorrow. Not only that, but now I have to suspend my Chuck marathon as well as suspend all of my DVDs on hold at the Library. I don't know how long it's going to take for me to get a new TV. I don't have a car that can transport a 40-50 inch TV and I certainly don't want to have to pay an additional $75-100 delivery fee that most charge. Need to find someone with a Truck or a Van that can help me out, thus the uncertainty of when I will have said TV in house. I had been eyeing QVC since my TV started failing for the past few months. But in that time, they never once had any TV's for sale. What the f*ck.

Sigh.  :(

If it takes 12 hours to turn the TV on.... why are you turning it off?

Man, I don't know what to say... is delivery really 75 dollars?  Jeezus.

I had every intention of leaving it on. Started doing that 2 days ago and it was starting to cook itself as it was overheating. So, turned it off last night and you know the rest of the story............
