My main TV has it. At first I tried to get it to work, and it never did. I'm not sure how it would anyway. IMO, Ii would be so far down my list of considerations.

I think the converting to 3D automatically is bullsh*t since I haven't actually heard anything about that.  There's 3D content that you can buy but it's more expensive, and 3D is usually made for cinema screens, and the effect is different when it's shrunk down to TV proportions.

Need clarification on something. Every TV I've looked into has said that it comes with 1 or 2 USB ports. Now I'm guessing that you can have a thumb-drive or a PC External Hard Drive with content on it (Pictures, MP3's, Video files: AVI, MOV, FLV, etc....) and hook it up to the TV. So, how does this work? The same as on a PC? Am I going to need to have SmartTV enabled to access the content on Drives? What about software to run the different types of files? Do I need to download what I need and upload it to TV? Any information would help.

I don't recall setting anything up to look at the pictures we put on a thumb drive.

A 'Home' screen which you will probably see when you select a 'Source', allows you to do a variety of things. I've only used it simply for looking at pics and listening to CD's.

I would say, if you get at least two USB, you should be covered.

I do believe the TV is becoming the central hub for a lot of your electronic activities.

Mine somehow displays caller ID when the phone rings. I'm stumped on that one. Cable is somehow connected to home phone in the TV.

You shouldn't need the smart TV, my dumb set in the living room has a USB input that I use thumb drives on (my Roku does as well) and I love it!  It's just some more built-in functionality, it's more of an input than "smart."

That's the issue I keep running into. Everywhere I've looked, it's nothing but Smart TV's. I'd prefer to get a Dumb TV myself. Gonna hit Best Buy tomorrow morning and see what they have on the floor. But I hate the idea that if I get it there, I only have a 15 day return option.

Okay, I just got back from Best Buy. I wrote down what I think would be ideal for me. They range from 42 to 50 inches. By the time I left, I had dropped 3 of them from my list.  It's down to 5 TVs at the moment. Gonna spend the day researching and reading reviews and seeing if anyone can beat their prices....FYI, half of what made up my original list actually were "Dumb TVs", but most only had a refresh rate of 60hz which pretty much rules them out as I need minimum 120hz.

And the race is on.... who will win the Kentucky Derby of Televisions? The Sony has 2:1 odds, while the LG and  Vizio are neck and neck. Watch out, here's comes Toshiba rushing up the back.

But wait, will 3D startle them all. No? Curved television might be the surprise work horse of the afternoon race.

Toshiba was actually put down by the trainer before even reaching the gate. HGH for the horse and Weed for the jockey. But you're right on the other ones.  ;D

Nothing against the brand itself, it's just that it didn't meet my minimum required specs for what was on the floor there.

How many of us are doing something else while watching TV?  I'm always either surfing, drawing, or writing when the TV is on.  That's why the Ock is still out of the question for me.

So, I keep circling back to Vizio 50" 1080p 120Hz Full-Array LED Smart HDTV E500i-B1. It's got all the specs I want and sh*t man, it's 100 bucks cheaper on Costco's site, plus 90 day return policy. Everything looks great, but the reviews I've read on their site as well as Amazon is scaring me off somewhat. Any of you guys have anything you can share regarding Vizio. Personal use or otherwise?

Just saw this review for Panasonic's dumb plasma set, the TC-P50U50 that came out in 2012.  There are a couple of downsides, but maybe worth consideration...
