Ultra Widescreen Monitors
« on: December 11, 2016, 03:34:07 pm »
Okay, I have been flirting with the idea of doing Dual Monitors, but before I go there, I was curious if any of you guys have that kind of setup at home or at work and what your thoughts are on it. If the Dual Monitor thing doesn't pan out, I'm also looking at upgrading to an Ultra Widescreen Monitor to replace my current one. This option is more likely for me as I have very limited real estate that I don't think two floating monitors would work for me, but I also want your advice and opinions on Ultra Widescreens if you have that as your main setup. I won't be getting a 4K monitor because my PC is old by today's standards and it wouldn't even come close to running that kind of content.

So I have the dual screen setup at work. Wide screen Side by side.  I'm guessing it might be a total of 30 inches across? I like the setup because I can use the two screen method of fully opening an application in either/both screens. Working multiple applications together. All aplications are in my bottom left monitor tray.

Or if I like, I can stretch my Excel file all the way across both screens. Some applications just require a larger spread.

I have the large IMac single monitor at home. I played with the idea of dual monitors at home, but nothing I do at home requires multiple monitors. My screen is big enough to have multiple applications spread out across the monitor. I believe the IMac has instant access to multiple screens (which you setup), I just haven't tried it. I love the large screen for home because my eyes are getting bad and the screen is working real well for me. It's simple, large and takes up about 2/3 of my desk. Just enough room to have a few things on top. At times I wish I had an L-shape desk, but I deal with what I have fine.

Personally I love the idea of a ultra wide screen. It's cleaner.

If your liking the dual monitor setup, there's companies out there for providing support solutions, that may help with the real estate issue. Brackets and monitor holding options. For example...

Thanks for the additional info. I'm torn between which way to go. They both appeal to me for different reasons. Will be looking into both as far as pros and cons go.

Cheap Korean Curved Ultrawide 100Hz Gaming Monitor (M340CLZ from Microboard)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vvdvjralvs&index=23&t=44s&list=WL

Just caught this earlier in the week. Not something I'd normally consider, but a lot of reviewers have been touting this as a legit alternative to the overpriced name brands out there. The only downside for me is that this doesn't have good color reproduction. I wonder if its something that can be fixed with software update. If yes, then I'd give this a serious second look.

Interesting reviewer... a little goofy (hopefully due to the cold and drugs), but he backs up his review with with some serious research.

I'm not sure about your comment of software updates. Is that possible? I've never had a TV or monitor capable of getting better than a factory production output, with any kind of update.

Maybe times have changed, and that's possible today?

It's the old adage, and he said it as well, you get what you pay for.

He's a very reputable reviewer that I have been following for a couple of years now. And yeah, he sounds like that all the time and his goofieness is part of his character....er persona. While most are very serious in nature, he tends to be the opposite while giving out valuable information on whatever he is reviewing at the time. As for Updates, everything is possible these days. But since this is a company I've never heard of (i.e. very small company), I wouldn't expect them to have the infrastructure or man power to devote a team to work on updates if there goal is just to captitalize on selling as many monitors as they can before the next company beats them in price).

The top tier UltraWide is the Acer Predator 34-inch Curved UltraWide QHD and that comes in at $1,200. So, by that benchmark you will be able to gauge how good of a deal this is. Granted, it's dependent if this comes with all the bells and whistles that the Acer has.
