you know what's crazy.

I have NO idea who's even in Dave's band for this tour....I saw it pop up in the side suggestions and I'd always remember my friends reaction to seeing this tour...he said Dave pretty much sucked..and his hair was a mess and he couldn't stop fiddling with his "weave"

hahahaha

Yeah, the tour...more to the point, Dave's half of the show just got tore up by fans and critics alike. That's why I'm looking forward to watching this for the first time....ever! I have to see Train Wrecks, no matter how painful they may be.

my theory is....if I go in with very low expectations....I might be pleasantly surprised.

Gary Cherone told me that

I was hoping you'd like that

I felt like I stuck a minor vein of comedy gold when I typed it!

Five songs into the set and it's been all Van Halen songs. I'm beginning to think Dave has no confidence in his solo stuff. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_wink.gif)

Nine songs in.....still VH songs. What the hell!? I paid good money to hear songs from his never-heard-of-solo-albums-with-songs-that-I-never-knew-existed!!!(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_biggrin.gif)

he's singing pretty good though right...and the band is solid

This show is waaaaaaaaaaay better than I thought it would be. Seriously. I'm actually impressed by how faithful the guitar player is. I can't recall the guys name, but he did a hell of a job. Dave's voice sounds good here.

What's really funny though about watching this 2002 show is that it makes me want to bust out some early VH albums whereas the new shows this year do not. Go figure.

Fantastic show. Best Van Halen cover band I've ever heard. Ha. Seriously, this show was pretty damn good and way better than his Skyscraper Tour that I saw at the Sports Arena, which was just 'okay'. But that set had about 50/50 Van Halen / Solo stuff. So, not sure if I'm liking this 2002 show a lot more because there was only one song he played of his, that being Yankee Rose. The band and Dave sounded great here. I can't give it a full 5 stars for a couple of reasons: A) I can't stand live shows on DVD/VHS or whatever that insist on inserting video vignettes throughout the show. This is a concert, not a music video! B) Dave has to do away or at least cut down on his "story telling" part of the show. He has been doing this his entire career and it always brings the show to a screeching halt.

I'd be okay if he wasn't telling the same damn story over and over. I wonder if he is still doing it now, back when Van Halen were still a group and touring...........

4 1/2 Stars out of 5

I'm with you I liked this....he's singing much better....for whatever reason on the new tour he tries to singer higher notes...almost like upper melodies to the original vocal lines...and it just doesn't sound good....this set, he's singing way more effortlessly...and I'll be damned if it didn't sounds like a great old VH show...minus Eddie and the boys...but still on Roth's end...he delivered as did the band.

hard not to like this.

it's really good.

I'd give it a 4 to 4.5 stars myself....not sure I'd give any of the new tour shows this high of a rating...and if I did, my guess is it would be based more on EVH performance that night...rather than Dave

Yeah, I don't get or understand the sudden need for Dave to be trying to higher notes this year. I can't remember if he did the same a couple years back during the Reunion Tour or not. But I get the sense that he is out to "prove" to people he can sing or whatever is possessing him to do so.

No idea. I had stopped following him around the time of the Sam and Dave Tour. Your guess is as good as mine.
