Title: The Newsroom - HBO

The Newsroom ( - HBO (

HBO launched a new series this week starring Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer. Honestly I had very little interest in this because well, I thought it was about news. My wife wanted to watch it and Iím glad she pursued it. This shot to top of my list of must see TV. I was partially wrong on what it was about, but Iím glad to say, The Newsroom was so much more than I thought and it was just amazing television. I canít give this show enough praise. This kept me tightly engaged from the first minute. The dialog is amazing and lightening speed (Reminds me of House of Lies, another favorite of mine). All the characters are different and a blast to watch. Jeff Daniels had me glued to the screen. I donít know if his characters is arrogant or under pressure or doesnít care or losing his memory from vertigo drugs. None the less, a brilliant man that has conflicts with everybody.

Directed by Aaron Sorkin, this is a thought provoking, expertly paced, artistic piece of work. The Newsroom is what goes on behind a national news organization. Personal relationships only entrench the news concept more deeply.

I loved this show most probably because of the direction The Newsroom wants to lead you too. In a nutshell, News stations have drifted from facts into biased opinions. After only one episode, I would guess this will be one of the main agendaís for the show.

Check out this opening sequence that might catch your attention.
Daniels character doesnít do these soliloquies through the rest of the show, but his passion and thoughts are on his sleeve. Great television.

I believe there are ways to watch the full episode. Youtube perhaps (

This has been on my radar for the past month or so. It's cool that HBO is allowing a free view for the Pilot episode, which I will watch later today. But since I don't have HBO anymore, this will be the only episode I get to watch until the season is out on DVD. I still need to check out Veep as well. Thanks for posting the episode.

I watch Veep too when I remember itís on. It is obviously all political, but all with humorous intent. In ways itís fascinating with a grain of truth, but thatís what makes it fun, and watchable. Despite that it still represents a whole other world I canít relate too. Iíll watch it when itís on and if I run across it.

News Night 2.0 (

:-\ Hmmmm. 2.0 took a rather divergent path. Where the pilot episode was engaging, 2.0 became frustrating and then tiresome with the rapid lightening fast conflicts. Do not blink or you will lose yourself on the subject at hand. Then the women come off looking pretty goofy. I mean in the first episode, solid presence and they had to be to be known and keep their job. Here, they suddenly do some pretty stupid stuff. Jeff Daniels is awesome as a man with a goal, yet an enormous attitude.

Still pretty decent television, but down a notch or two from the opener.
