In spite of the negative reviews I've heard about Safe House, I actually found it to be far more enjoyable than expected and for once, there is a Ryan Reynolds movie that doesn't suck. He has always been a good actor when he wants to be, but for me he has had a very uneven track record. He does seem to have the same thing that is afflicting Jennifer Aniston, taking roles in movies that just don't do either one justice. Anyway, the star of this one is definitely Denzel Washington as Tobin Frost. who from the outset of the movie is portrayed as the film's main villain. But as we get deeper into the film, we learn there is more than meets the eye to where eventually Matt Weston (Reynolds) who is ordred by the CIA to take custody of Tobin ends up trying to clear the man's name.

Safe House isn't an original concept. In fact, they take the best parts of all 3 Bourne Films (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/the-bourne-ultimatum/msg8602/#msg8602) with certain character archetypes, plots points and twists and turns. I'm not saying this movie is exactly like Bourne, but if you watch all the movies you will see a lot of similarities between the two, especially how the fight scenes play out which by the way are pretty damn cool to watch. Also, visually Safe House takes its cue from Bourne as well.

I highly recommend this as a Rent for sure. Gotta give a shout out to Mac. It was his review that prompted me to check this one out and I'm glad I did.

Definitely a different role for Reynolds. Thank Gawd. Love his comedic style, but Safe House was a refreshing perspective from this actor. Hope he continues to pick these better roles
