Even though I'm a huge fan of Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis, when I first saw Gangs Of New York in the theater on Opening Day, I was kind of disappointed when it was over. It wasn't a dud, far from it. It just didn't live up to my expectations of what I have come to expect from Scorsese over the years. It actually took me a good 10 times before I really started to warm up to the movie as a whole. Sure, the film always had amazing performances, especially from Daniel Day-Lewis who owned this movie. Leo also gave a stellar performance. I thought the Art Direction was amazing. My biggest gripe back then was the story. Over the years I have come to appreciate the movie more and more with each viewing. It's still not a perfect film to me, but it is far from a disappointment to me now compared to my initial reaction to it. Cameron Diaz and Henry Thomas also were great in this.

Definitely worth a Rent for sure. I own the DVD, but I don't know if I would tell you to Buy it, especially the Bare Bones Edition I have.

10 times?

Ya must of liked most of it to sit through it that many times

I've seen it once, remember some of it, but mostly remember thinking finally, DeCaptio has grown out of his boyish looks.

Well, it was Danny Boy's performance that I could sit through, even if the story itself wasn't all that captivating for me.
