Cop Land is an interesting take on 'dirty cops' with how the story is presented, especially the idea that it's a town full of dirty cops that think they are untouchable. The movie itself really doesn't do it justice though. I think the execution wasn't even close to being met. I think there were just too many obstacles to jump over to make this a film that you could put alongside some of the best films in the Crime genre. Casting Robert De Niro in a role opposite of what he normally excels at in these types of movies was it's first mistake. He just seemed so out of place among a sea of actors that he should have been leading instead of looking at from the outside. The other mistake and it's biggest hurdle was Sylvester Stallone in the lead role. It's not that he was bad, but just like De Niro, he just looked odd next to the likes of Harvey Keitel and Ray Liotta.

If you're a fan of movies like GoodFellas (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/goodfellas-(1990)/msg10092/#msg10092) and series like The Sopranos, you will get a kick out of seeing a lot of familiar faces. Cop Land is definitely worth a Rent. Just don't expect it to knock your socks off.
