To this day, I still don't understand or get the negative reaction most people seem to have of The Patriot. I've always thought this was one of Mel Gibson's best movie. Is it on par with say Braveheart and Lethal Weapon? No. But that's not to say that I don't like it. I love it. I get that there is the whole 'historical inaccuracy' of the character of Benjamin Martin being based on the real life of Francis Marion. Do people get that this is a fictional story set in the world of the Revolutionary War, much the same way that Jack and Rose were featured prominently within Titanic (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/titanic-(1997)/msg4813/#msg4813)? This isn't a documentary, but escapist film making to put you in the seat of some pivotal moments of American History. I thought Roland Emmerich did a great job here and I actually came away more of fan his "little" movie than his bigger and louder films like Independence Day (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/independence-day-(1996)/msg5123/#msg5123). I highly recommend this as a Buy.

Funny thing about why I busted this one out again. Ever since the premiere of Revolution (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/tv/revolution-(season-1)/msg8754/#msg8754), I have been itching to watch The Patriot, which has some of the same basic setups and plot points, even though they are nothing alike, and yet, they both could be twins. Having just watched this tonight, I feel that I need to pick up Assassin's Creed III (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/video-games/assassin's-creed-iii/msg9377/#msg9377), which takes place during the Revolutionary War as well.
