Moonraker for me is kind of a double edge sword. How do I review this movie? Do I review it based on my perceptions of this as a kid when I saw it in the theater or do I review it as an aging Wonderboy now? Back when this first came out, and it being only my 2nd James Bond film at the time, I loved this movie, especially the Space Battle with the Lasers and the return of Jaws. I would have easily given Moonraker 5 Stars back then, even though I knew this to be a far lesser film than that of The Spy Who Loved Me (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/the-spy-who-loved-me-(1977)/msg14368/#msg14368).

So, what about now Mr. Wonderboy? The thing that I absolutely loved as a kid is what kind of undermines the first 2/3rd of the movie now. Does Moonraker suck? Hell no. I think it's unfairly mocked and ridiculed. Granted I understand and partially agree that James Bond in space with the laser fight with untethered astronauts is beyond implausible and just downright goofy. But if you go back and watch Act 1 and Act 2, it's a pretty good and very entertaining Bond film.

Now, in hindsight, Jaws was nothing more than comedic relief then and now, which I actually liked. But the idea of him falling in love and doing that slo-mo run toward the girl of his dreams up in the Space Station is pretty damn funny.....unintentional of course. Prior to the 3rd Act, I was set to give this movie 4 Stars. But it's gonna have to settle for 3 1/2 Stars. It's definitely worth a Rent to check out the most campiest of all Bond films. Hell, it has the best inside-joke ever which makes me smile every time I think about it. What is it you wonder? Not telling, but lets just say it has something to do with this (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/close-encounters-of-the-third-kind-(1977)/msg11706/#msg11706).
