Title: Evil Dead (2013)
Post by: Mac on January 04, 2013, 03:30:19 pm
Evil Dead (2013)

Not much for the Reboot and sometimes, yes, sometimes a good one appears. With the blessing of the original director Sam Raimi, the classic Evil Dead is getting rebooted. Quite frankly it looks intensely more frightening.

This is NSFW and not for the squeamish. It is extremely gory and bloody.

Evil Dead centres on a group of college students who take a holiday in an isolated cabin in the Tennessee hills. Once there, they discover a so-called "Book of the Dead" in the cellar and unwittingly summon up demons living in the woods nearby. It is a remake of the 1981 horror classic written and directed by Sam Raimi.

Raimi is on board as producer for the remake, which is being helmed by rookie director Fede Álvarez. Raimi's original script has been revised by Hollywood newcomer Rodo Sayagues and Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody, the wisecracking scribe behind Juno and Jennifer's Body.

The cast includes Jessica Lucas from Cloverfield, Red Riding Hood's Shiloh Fernandez and Jane Levy, star of US sitcom Suburgatory. Evil Dead is scheduled to open in UK cinemas on April 19.

SURPRISE! Evil Dead Hit with an NC-17; Cut for an R Rating

Quote
Unless you've been living under a rock and haven't seen anything pertaining to the upcoming remake of the Sam Raimi classic Evil Dead, then you know that the filmmakers were shooting an unrated film the entire time. But of course the MPAA weighed in...

Director Fede Alvarez answered a fan's question regarding the film's rating via his Twitter page:

"Was proud of scoring a NC17 when submitted! But we had to cut stuff out to get an R and get the film into theaters." Hopefully this means we'll be getting a nice hard R rating for theatres and then something absolutely insane for its home video bow. Stay tuned.

Ghost House Pictures is producing the much anticipated remake of The Evil Dead, the film that effectively launched the careers of Sam Raimi (Spider-Man franchise, Darkman, Drag Me to Hell), Rob Tapert (30 Days of Night), and Bruce Campbell, who played the Ash character and was co-producer of the original. They are now back to produce an Evil Dead for today's audience that's high on the horror, gore, plot twists, and more from a screenplay written by Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues with Diablo Cody. Executive producers are J.R. Young, Nathan Kahane, Joseph Drake, and Peter Schlessel.

Why bother with an R rating? You are hitting pretty much the same demographic either way. I say go with the NC-17 rating and keep it the way the director envisioned it.

Well, you probably know NC-17 would be death. No advertising, no theater would play it... and on and on.

But I would loooooove to see what those ****s do when they say, oh yea, that beheading has to go, but the **** by the trees can stay.

Seriously, what's the difference in 'violence' when it comes to NC-17 vs R?

It's all about sex.  We can hope for an NC-17 blu release, at least.

I would tend to agree, but I don't think sex is the issue here in Evil Dead.

We here in the United States have some strange ass issues of Sex vs. Violence.
I'm just sayin

Well, isn't Ash a recovering addict?  And now a woman?  And wouldn't a female addict be willing to debase herself if she thought it might get her the fix she so desperately feels she needs?
