I've always been fascinated with people that have exceptional minds...genius' that crack due to undue pressure of work or simply because the stress of always 'working' everything around them causes the one thing that makes them unique to turn against them. It's just a weird thing that happens. A Beautiful Mind does a great job of illustrating that with John Nash (Russell Crowe). There has been a lot of discussions about how Ron Howard chose to tell Nash's story and the events of his life and that the movie is more "fiction" than fact. Who cares. The movie's narrative works for me and apparently it worked for others as it won for Best Picture Of The Year.
The movie may be about Nash and Crowe was phenomenal here, but it was Jennifer Connelly that stole the movie. She was amazing in her role of Alicia Nash. What an incredible performance. Ron Howard did what he always does, creates movies that entertain and will be around for a long time after the fact. Props to Ed Harris as well. He always comes guns blazing, no matter what role he takes on. One interesting thing about the casting of this movie was the addition of Adam Goldberg and Anthony Rapp who were basically joined at the hip in every scene they were in in this one. Fans of either actor will know them best from Dazed and Confused (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/dazed-and-confused-(1993)/msg11626/#msg11626) where they were also joined at the hip in every scene they appeared in. For the most part. I highly recommend this as a Rent.
