GoldenEye was a great rebooting of a franchise that was in serious need of retooling. Unlike my mindset toward Timothy Dalton, I was 100% on board with Pierce Brosnan breathing new life into the role of James Bond. He just looked and felt right in the role, even before the movie came out. But he isn't the only reason why GoldenEye was a success in my book. The other half of the equation was filmmaker Martin Campbell. I mean no disrespect toward John Glen, but the franchise needed to come into the 21st Century with the production of what a James Bond Film should be. Glen was an old school director. He shot his scenes very much in the mold of the 60's/70's and it always looked the part and is why most of them look very dated today. Hell, they looked date the moment they came out. Anyway....

With Campbell on board, we finally got a Bond flick that was actually an 'Event' tent-pole. The fight sequences were worlds beyond anything from the Connery/Moore/Lazenby/Dalton era. The same can be said for the Stunts and Set Pieces that were things we have never seen in a Bond film before. Bigger, louder and badder! Also, the addition to the franchise was Judi Dench as M. I loved that they decided to go with a woman in the role and one that has some serious acting chops as well. Added bonus was getting Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp (awesome name btw) and Izabella Scorupco as Natalya Simonova.

One thing about watching this one did take me totally by surprised though. I thought that Maude Adams was the only actor to have ever appeared in two seperate Bond films in two different roles. Well, I never knew that Joe Don Baker did just that as well. He was also in The Living Daylights (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/the-living-daylights-(1987)/msg15723/#msg15723).

I own this bad boy and highly recommend this as a Buy.
