Beverly Hills Cop was HUGE when it came out and it was the movie that made Eddie Murphy the biggest movie star in the world at that time. He couldn't have gotten bigger. Well, his ego could. But that's another story for another time. As for this movie, it was one of my all time favorites at the time and it's held up extremely well over the years. The story is great as well as the actor's that portrayed them. But this is first and foremost a Murphy vehicle as he OWNS it. But you need more than just one guy to make a movie as successful as this one and it all boils down to what is basically the 3 Stooges format.

For me, I think beyond the comedy, what makes this such a great movie is watching Rosewood, Taggert and Bogomil, who are by-the-books anal when it comes to doing there jobs, suddenly throwing out the book by the end and taking the initiative to get the job done in the face of reprisal from their Boss. Getting back to Murphy, watching his character of Axel Foley talking his way into and out of situations was a thing of beauty and highly entertaining. I'm hopeful that the much talked about TV series (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/tv/beverly-hills-cop-(season-1-2013)/msg14051/#msg14051) will have more of the same and not just become another in a long line of police procedural shows.

If you don't already own this, shame on you! Go Buy it now!! Worth every penny.
