Was Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End as good as Dead Man's Chest (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/pirates-of-the-caribbean-dead-man's-chest-(2006)/msg16512/#msg16512)? Probably not. I've heard of the criticisms of At World's End with regards to the plot that was seemingly "hard to follow". I was able to follow it just fine and didn't have any issues with that at all. Sure, there are a lot of twist and turns to be found, but I've wired my brain to think and write in terms of constantly switching things up. I don't want predictable plots. Anyway, there's really only a couple of things that I would say marks this down somewhat compared to Chest. The humor that was in abundance in Chest and Black Pearl (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/pirates-of-the-caribbean-the-curse-of-the-black-pearl-(2003)/msg16504/#msg16504) was drastically reduced. I guess something had to go right? The other thing that I was looking forward to was Calypso's return to the Sea. Other than growing into a giant and then turning into a bunch of crabs, there wasn't much else. So, that was kind of a let down.
But for the rest of the movie, I found it to be extremely entertaining and one that I could and most likely return to time and again. The first 3 films make up a fantastic Trilogy that is sure to entertain even the most jaded when it comes to Hollywood franchises. I honestly don't get the bashing that this installment gets. To each their own......
I highly recommend this as a Rent for those that have yet to see this. Me, I'm Buying this for sure. Gonna see what kind of Box Set's are out there first. Loved the cameo by Keith Richards. Ha. Awesome! Yes, I knew about it beforehand. But given that I avoid spoilers all the time, I chose not to even look for images or clips of said cameo all these years. Suck on that Entertainment Magazines! I do wish they did more with Chow Yun Fat though.
One last thing, if you complain about the "bleak" ending regarding Will and Elizabeth, be sure to stick all the way to the very end, past the credits that is. I've made it a habit of doing that for everything I watch. For this one, it's pretty good.
