Well, I finally got around to watching The Day the Earth Stood Still and this movie was very underwhelming to say the least. With a movie about "alien" invaders, I've been brainwashed into expecting certain 'beats' in this type of genre and this one had none of that. It's more cerebral about what is coming and how the Human Race is destroying Earth and therefore they will be punished with death in order to save the planet. I get what the story is trying to do, but as a movie, it's just not very memorable and one that I will never watch again.

As far as Keanu Reeves goes, and I am a fan of most of his movies, he just looked bored here. Yes, I get that his character Klaatu is not suppose to have a personality as he is suppose to an Alien with no human traces of emotion. But still, this is not one of his better performances. Jennifer Connelly was only able to do so much with what she was given. Jaden Smith was good though.

Can't really see recommending this if I never intend to watch it again. Even the Special FX were just meh for me. This is a Skip.

I can't recommend this either, despite the original being one of my favorites. Reeves completely drained any character or emotion from the story. Why? I have no idea. The original Klaatu had a very distinctive character. In fact everything revolved around him. The spotlight was on his human like curiosity.

This version completely misses everything. The wooden acting. The robotic lifeless character. They put all their energy in trying to reimagine the spaceship and Gort.

I saw this once and that was more than a waste of time.

I've only seen parts of the original and never really knew what the story was. So I can't look at the remake as an actual remake. No base of comparison for me. But just as a stand alone Sci-Fi film, it fails for me.
