IGN News: New Batman: Arkham Game Coming This Year

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxWIbkHwfgI

I don't like the idea of another studio working on the 3rd installment of the Batman franchise. Rocksteady perfected the fight mechanics as well as creating a living breathing game. So the idea of someone taking over just screams that this is going to be nothing more than a cash grab and not have any of the polish the first two games had. We shall see......

IGN News: Batman: Arkham Origins Announced and Dated

I'm still concerned about this game. Even though the new team has access to the engine that runs the Batman Arkham game, no Rocksteady involvement makes this a wait and see proposition for me. I just hope the game and the franchise doesn't get f*cked up. The game is schedule to be released on October 25 of 2013.

Of course Rocksteady will come out and support the new team. They are using their engine, which means they will get a cut of the profits.

Batman: Arkham Origins Gameplay Demo - IGN Live - E3 2013

I guess I can stop worrying about what's gonna happen with this game. The demo looks fantastic and that the new studio did in fact keep a lot of what made the first two games so awesome. It actually looks like Rocksteady did the game themselves, that's how good the game looks. I actually had to stop watching the demo midway because it was giving away TOO MUCH stuff. No need to ruin it for me. Looks like this is gonna be a first day buy for me.....just like the last one.

I'm getting super pumped for this game now. How did I go from "I'm not gonna buy it" to "I'm buying it on day one"?

So, I was lucky enough to get a chance to play the Demo this year at Comic Con, even if it was on the PS3. It's safe to say that Origins follows in the trail blazing path set by its 2 predecessors games. There really isn't all that much difference between this one and the other games at all and that is a good thing. My biggest concern was that the new studio taking over for Rocksteady would mess with perfection, "fix" something that wasn't broken. The demo played great and was very familiar for me. I was able to use the same combo sequences from the previous two games in this one. There was one new thing in the Demo though and it was the 'Beacon Tracker' Bar at the top of the screen to guide you in where you need to go. It took a little getting use to and is a nice addition to the game-play. Graphics look amazing. Sounded great as well. The Demo was around 15 minutes long, depending on how quickly you got through each of the 3 sections. I took my time to explore. I'm sure the people waiting in line behind me weren't happy. Bite me. Based on the Demo, this will be a Day 1 release purchase for me.

I skipped on picking up a copy of Batman Arkham Origins due to poor reviews. A lot of people really slammed the final product and because of that I decided to wait till a massive price drop. There was no way in hell I would pay full price ($60) for something universally ripped apart. The demo obviously didn't show the whole game and can cherry pick what to reveal to the public. Anyway, I finally picked up a Brand New copy for less than half off the price. Playing it now. Just got through the first Boss Fight (Croc) and it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't anything special either as it kind of just picks up where Batman Arkham City left off with regards to play style as well as available gadgets.

I'm starting to see what all the negativity is about this one. I'm only about 5% complete on the game and it's already way to repetitive. I'm hoping it gets better, but I'm not holding my breath.

Now that I've had more time to play the game, it's getting better. Still a bit repetitive, but I still have a more favorable feeling toward the game. The map is still taking some getting use to as far as navigating. It's different from the previous two games. The Deathstroke Boss Challenge was brutal. My forearms and fingers were fatigued to the max. Painful. I didn't think it would ever end.

The Copperhead Boss Fight was fun, but exhausting. But it's NOTHING like the Bane Boss Fight. It's brutal, painful and tiring. I couldn't get anywhere against Bane last night and even though I've gotten a little bit further in the fight this morning, it's damn frustrating to say the least. Ugh!

Ugh! Are you kidding me? I finally "beat" Bane only to find out that this level is set to where he escapes. So, I have to track him down later in the game to take him on.....again! INSANE!

The Firefly Boss Fight was kind of a clusterf*ck. It wasn't hard, but the navigation through the map was just weird. Also, not really a fan of quicklime events that make up the bulk of this fight. With that said, I'm kinda digging the overall story and how it's playing out.

Ya know, Origins isn't as bad as most people have made it out to be. Sure, it can get a bit repetitive at times, but I think the story more than makes up for that little hiccup. So, my final Boss Fight is to go up against Bane one last time. Only thing about that, it's INSANE. It's actually broken up into 3 parts, all total, if you were able to fight through each level without any problems, I would say it takes about 30 minutes. It's hard and the 3rd level took me a few times to figure out.

After you defeat Bane, you have one "final Boss Fight" against the Joker. I won't say this is even close to a typical Boss Fight compared to the others, but it does offer a beat down on Joker's face and it....was....AWESOME! I could play that final scene over and over. I will go on record and say that the Bane Fight does put the Boss Fights from Arkham and Arkham City to shame, both of which were way to easy and disappointing to say the least. Overall, I would give Origins 4 Stars out of 5.

With the campaign portion of the game completed, it's now off to finish the side mission and get as close to 100% as I can. The Deadshot mission was a bit challenging and time consuming. Basically having to clear the board of nothing but armed guards....twice, before I could defeat DS. This took 3-4 times before I got it right. But it was the Madhatter challenge that I really liked. The mission's level design was patterned after the Scarecrow level design from Batman Arkham Asylum, which was a favorite of mine. I just love the "side scrolling" element to the level and it changes it up from 3D aspect of the game.
