Out of Sight is just a kick ass movie, which has a lot of things going for it. George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez, Ving Rhames, Don Cheadle, Luis Guzmán, Albert Brooks and of course the guy steering the ship, Steven Soderbergh. I think what I like most about Out Of Sight is that it's a different spin on the Crime Genre. You wouldn't know it, but it does end up becoming a Heist Flick, but the reason why you don't see it coming is because of two things: the Fractured Narrative and the unusual, 'opposites attract' Love Story. When it comes to the 'fractured narrative' device, because it was minimal and complicated, it works. I wish he had stuck with this approach when he made Haywire (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/haywire-(2011)/msg10786/#msg10786), which was overkill in his attempt to weave in and out of said device.

Both Clooney and Lopez have fantastic chemistry on screen. It's her role as Karen Sisco that I've come to realize as being Lopez best movie ever. Everything that's come after the fact has always been judge by this performance in my eyes. This also one if my favorite Clooney performances as well and a precursor to that suave, debonair cat he perfects in the Ocean's Eleven (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/ocean's-eleven/msg5663/#msg5663) franchise. His character of Jack Foley could easily fit in nicely as a replacement for Danny Ocean. But then again, it's Clooney. I've always liked thinking that the ending of Out Of Sight (even though the cameo with Samuel L. Jackson's character plotting an eventual escape with Jack Foley) leads directly into the beginning of Ocean's Eleven.

The other thing that I really dig about this film is Steven Soderbergh cinematic style. If you've seen a couple of his movies, you will know what I'm referring to. Love the freeze frames he utilizes to punctuate his scenes and sometimes he does it right in the middle of a scene and it still works. Fantastic cast all around. Definitely a movie that everyone should own. This is a Buy for sure.

Fun fact: Michael Keaton's role of Ray Nicolette appears in both Out of Sight and Jackie Brown (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/jackie-brown-(1997)/msg5888/#msg5888). Another fun fact was that spin-off that gave us Karen Sisco on TV. Unfortunately, it didn't last long. I for one loved both actors playing the Father/Daughter tandem portrayed by Robert Forster and Carla Gugino. I just wised that it caught on and was given a legitimate chance.

Despite never seeing this movie before or being familiar with the books, somehow I always knew that J Lo was Karen Sisco in this movie.

I totally dug the movie, the style, the non-linear storytelling.  It felt kind of like a hip 70s movie set in the present.  And damn that George Clooney is smooth.  How many movies had he been in before this?

His most "notable" films before this one were From Dusk till Dawn and Batman & Robin. But it was Out of Sight that finally "broke" him into becoming a true Hollywood stud. Most people thought that his career was over after Batman.

I figured as much, you can tell somehow from his performance, you know?  Maybe it's like he feels like he's so happy to be doing a movie that his excitement is oozing out his pores as he's trying to act.

Great bit of trivia with Michael Keaton, I figured he was in there for a reason.  Bigger movie universe.  Nice.

And J Lo.  Rowr.  That Dolphins jersey was VERY 90s.

If you've never watched Jackie Brown, do yourself a favor and check it out. Keaton's character plays a bigger role in that one. I think you've seen it. Didn't we talk about it before?

Never seen it.

I feel like there could have been a point where ALL the auteur directors were gonna each do a Sisco flick with a common cast, Avengers style without the team-up.
