Hoop Dreams is more than just a documentary about Basketball. Sure, the doc follows two high school kids with dreams of playing in the NBA as they weave in and out of problems that crop up at every turn as they try to get their teams to the state championships. Basketball anchors the story, but it's really about all the bullsh*t that seems to derail the kids time and again. Whether it's coming from a broken family, unemployment, teen pregnancy, injuries, it's a wonder that both were able to finish HS and go onto college.

If you want real life drama and the truest sense of the word, definitely check out Hoop Dreams. One thing to take note of is the films run time. Clocking in at 2 hours and 47 minutes, this isn't the typical documentary.
