Heart Of The Game

As good as Hoop Dreams ('s-blu-rays/hoop-dreams-(1994)/msg17418/#msg17418) is as a documentary, at times the viewer can feel like they are being worn down the insurmountable odds of life intruding in on two boys dreams of making it to the Pros. And for one of them, it doesn't have a happy ending. The Heart Of The Game is more about perseverance than anything else. This time around, we are tracking the trial and tribulations of Darnellia Russell , the girls star player for the Roughriders. She too has her shares of outside forces working against her as well, the biggest being teen pregnancy and then the WIAA trying to punish her for it by trying to ban her from playing in her Senior year.

As much as the story is about her, it's also about Coach Bill Resler, who's unorthodox coaching style turned good players into a winning team. But wasn't easy getting to the top. Perseverance is what the movie and the team is definitely about. After getting closer and closer to the brass ring that is the State Championship, they finally put it all together in Danrnellia to win it all. This is a great documentary and very enjoyable to watch. Definitely has that happy ending. Worth a Rent.
