It has to be at least 10 years since I last watched Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. But prior to that, I did watch this more than I care to admit. So, with such a long time since my last viewing, watching this now actually seemed new and fresh to me, in spite of knowing every single scene that was about to pop up. Practically all the sight gags still deliver for me. I was actually surprise that the jokes could get me to laugh at the right moment as much as they did.

Even though this is a movie about 'Austin Powers', for me he never was the star of the movie. Dr. Evil for the win. You have to have a kick ass villain in order to make the hero look good. The only problem is that Dr. Evil steals every scene that he is in that it kind of makes Austin a non-issue in his own damn movie. Don't get me wrong, I like the character and Mike Myers does a great job in that role (and of course Dr. Evil). But whenever Austin is on screen, I'm counting the seconds to when Evil rears its ugly head again.

Great cast all around with Robert Wagner, Seth Green and of course eye candy Elizabeth Hurley. Yowzza!! Can't forget to mention Mindy Sterling and Will Ferrell. Just a fun movie that also utilizes the fish-out-of-water genre to great effect. This is actually one of the first DVD's I ever bought. I think maybe the 5th one. Anyway, I highly recommend this as a Rent if you enjoy the James Bond series.

While it hadn't been ten years, this was pretty much MY experience watching Austin a couple weeks ago.  Please tell me you watched the cut scenes, it's one of the few times where they're as funny as the rest of the movie ("oh, so *I'M* buying the case.  But what if I don't like the case?")

I'm going to plow through the other two movies and then go back and hit the bonus stuff.

It's kinda funny, I owned these movies, watched them only to never watch them again. I don't know why. I love their goofiness.

So I was recently reading rumors of Meyer's going for a fourth... Maybe because his last few have been horrendous?

Rumours on THIS board, as well as a (somewhat derivative) proposal for how the fourth could start.

Chip, did you notice that the dude giving the Virtucon tour (in Vegas!) is one of the director's entourage from Showgirls?  I just remembered that.

Yup. As soon as I saw him, I started playing out his scenes from SG in my head.

I did the opposite, I started hearing his Austin Powers bit when he popped up in SG.

You had watched Showgirls prior to your Austin Powers Marathon right?

I had watched Austin first, if I recall.

"Our last dancer had to leave, she was scaled... with volatile chemicals!"
