Great to see the show back. I wasn't sure when it was coming back, so seeing that the first episode was up was a nice surprise. The episode was good, but Norma acting like the 'good mother' kind of threw me for a loop. Last season she was unhinged and the harbinger of what appeared to be the seed that tainted Norman. So, seeing her being creeped out about Norman's morbid fascination with taxidermy and visiting the cemetery isn't something that "boys should be doing". So, suddenly she is June Cleaver. Other than this slight of hand thing they are doing, it was a nice return back to the show. Bradley's story just got better. Really wasn't sure what they were going to do with her character last season. Having her killing the guy at the end of this episode opens the door for her arc.....as well as Norman, who will jump at the chance to "help her".

I am so far removed from this show.

It's the classic case, for me, it disappeared for awhile and I forgot about it. And since it's so linear like Breaking Bad, I'm not going to try an jump in. Not even going to try catch up.

If it comes on Netflix one day, then that's probably my way of watching this.

If you have a DVR box (or whichever cable carrier you call home), all of Season 1 is On Demand right now.

All I have is Charter On-Demand. Apparently their contract is supplying only a handful of the latest episodes.

Very irritating. I started to watch SyFy's Helix. I kind liked it. I forgot a few weeks, I go back and all they have On-Demand is episodes 5-8. WTF.

Not much really happened because the entire episode was about Norman helping....or trying to get Bradley on a bus and out of town to start her life anew elsewhere. It wasn't a bad episode, just kind of a filler one at that. It did however give us an iconic scene that calls to mind Psycho. With Norman reading Bradley's 'Goodbye' Letter to him, as he sits on the steps below, in the background you see a silhouette of Norma peering through the curtains of that infamous window. The final scene shows the introduction of Norma's Brother. I like how they are expanding the family, which is really the last thing I thought about with the show just based on the classic film. I like that the brother is being played by Kenny Johnson (The Shield, Dexter, Sons Of Anarchy). I just haven't seen much of him in anything since The Shield closed up shop.

I don't wanna brag or anything. Okay, maybe I do. But as soon as Caleb and Dylan had their first scene together, I immediately knew that they were going to announce at the end of the episode that they were father and son. So when the twist finally happens, it wasn't a surprise, but a "it took you long enough to tell us". Overall, this episode flew by incredibly fast. Michael Vartan has a small role in this episode, which is sure to become a recurring character for him. But the thing that threw me of a loop is his face. He must have had some major work done, because he looks NOTHING like he did on Alias. If he didn't have work, I commend the makeup department for a bang up job. Paloma Kwiatkowski had a small part in the previous episode, but based on this episode, she's gonna have a bigger part to play for sure as Norman seems to have a thing for her.

Probably the creepiest and most disturbing episode yet for the series by simply having Norman climbing into Norma's bed and "comforting" her. Ick! And then later on, helping her get dressed and getting handsy. Double-ick! We finally get to see (and I mean really see) the psychotic side of Norman's mental state when he goes to confront Caleb and starts talking as if HE was Norma. Creeeeeeepy. As mental as he is, I don't think it's going to be Norman that kills Caleb. I have Dylan as the one doing the deed.

Great episode for a lot of reasons. For starters, they are clearly setting up something much larger by actually setting up both Norman and Emma. It's pretty clear that Cody is manipulating him with sex to get him to do anything she wants. My guess, it will be killing her father for her. The fact that she brought him by her house so that he could witness that she is abused by his hands pretty much guarantees this is where the story is leading. As for Emma, her relationship with her new boyfriend is a bit murky as nothing has really be laid (except her) as far as motives. But if I were a betting man, he is using her to possible set up an even bigger drug buy and wants to use the Bates Motel as the site of the transaction. Really cool to see Kathleen Robertson pop up in this episode as Dylan's Boss. I haven't seen her in much of anything since her glory days on Beverly Hills: 90210. Also good (for the shows sake) is having Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) moving into Bates Motel. Now we should start to see more of his character. Up till now, it's been too far and few between. Nestor is an awesome actor. Time to utilize that.

I haven't given enough credit for what Freddie Highmore has brought to the role of Norman Bates. He is so good that one completely forgets about Anthony Perkins in the iconic role. This episode is just another feather in his cap as we are now starting to see more overt explosions of rage. When he snapped at Cody after Emma nearly drowned, it took me by surprised. Clearly their relationship is over now, especially after he found out that she told Emma his 'Blackout' secret. So, if they are over, does that pretty much wipe out the fact that Cody was using Norman to kill her father? Nope. He does that as well by pushing him down the stairs and breaking his neck. Well, that's what it appears to look like anyway.

Good twist at the end. The entire episode was in fact a set up for the reveal at the end. So "nothing" happens as Norman and Norma try to get Cody to go along with getting their "stories on the same page" so that Norma won't be questioned about his blackouts. A lot of maneuvering to get the Police to rule that it was self-defense and send Norman on his way home. Sure enough, once he is out of the woods and things seem to be clearing up for him, we learn that the blood work came back linking Norman to Blair Watson’s murder scene. I like to see how Norman and Norma dance around that and get people to buy into a plausible reason why his blood would be there. One last thing, up till now, Norman hasn't really gone out of his way to butcher anyone. But the day is definitely fast approaching. I'm 100% confident that his first victim of his premeditated nature will be Michael Vartan's character as his jealousy is going to consume him. Now you may be saying "first". Well yeah. I think that Blair was a victim of his blackout. When Norman kills Vartan's character, he will be very aware of what he is doing and have recollections about it after the fact.

Farmiga and Hightower have always had great scenes together and are the main reason why this show works so well. But now that Norman is exhibiting passive aggressive behavior toward Norma, their scenes have gone to a whole other level and it's f*cking electric. The boiling point is getting ever so higher and makes watching each episode a joy to experience because we really don't know what's coming. There is always a twist that takes it down another road with the characters, which of course is just delaying the inevitable. Brilliant writing all around. Even Dylan's story is getting more interesting, especially with him being tasked to take out Zane Carpenter which will eventually put Dylan at the top of the food chain, bypassing Jodi Wilson one day. Even Sheriff Alex Romero is finally getting in on the act with a solid arc that is going to come to head. Factor into the mix a Deputy that obviously is going to become a loose end about withholding evidence about Norman. Like I said, this is great stuff we are getting right now. Love it.

The Box
(http://i.imgur.com/cTZ9poD.gif)

As I said in my previous post, what makes this show work (besides the exceptional acting from everyone involved) are the twist and this has another superb one. When the pearl necklace and the newspaper clipping falls out of Norman's pocket, you immediately go "oh sh*t, once Nick Ford gets wind of this, it's lights out for Norman". But, before anything can be done about this new found knowledge, Dylan kills Ford. Now I knew that the only way out of this would be to kill Ford. Just not as fast as it happened. The other great twist is that Norman, trapped in a box, is forced to remember exactly what happened on the night his teacher is killed. So, we the viewers finally get to see what happened as well. The only question that remains is how is anyone going to find Norman now? My money is on the Sheriff knowing where the box is and if he does, clearly is has some connection to it from his own past......but what?

So I joined my wife to watch the last 10 minutes of the finale.

Afterwards, they had on an "After Hours" show (much like Talking Dead) with Vera Farmiga and Max Thierot (Dylan) in the house. Freddie Highmore (Norman) joined via Televison, because he is in England studying for his exams.

I was blown away... again at how much of a heavy English accent he has. Olivia Cook is the same way. Just incredible how they hide the accent and sound so American.

I thought the Season Finale was great, but I did have issues with Sheriff Romero. He went from one extreme to the other and it was conflicting with who he wants to be. On the one hand, the "guilt" of possibly sending the wrong man to prison for the murder of Mrs. Watson is just too much for him to handle and wants to "do the right thing" by seeing to it that Norman takes a polygraph test to clear his conscious. On the other hand, Romero has no qualms about gunning down Zane in cold blood and then fabricating a story to cover up his murder. It's gotta be the water! Everyone there is a murderer! Overall, I did enjoy the finale and I really liked the scene between Dylan and Norma. Sucks about Jodi. I was hoping to see a long run on the show for Kathleen Robertson. Gonna go watch Bates Motel After Hours now. They hyped the hell out of the Q&A show during the episode. I'm glad they did as I'm looking forward to watching it.

She kinda has this Mae Whitman meets Jena Malone thing going on... and an image search also pulled up a picture of Larisa Oleynik, so I could picture them playing cousins or something like that.

Well, she's young and only been in a handful of things.  I think she might have been in one of the Percy Jackson flicks (so was Alexandra Daddario, and we saw how well that worked out)
