Getting around to watching Clash of the Titans was very low on my list. As a kid, other than perhaps Star Wars, I've probably seen the original Clash of the Titans more times than I care to admit. It's not that I liked the original. I actually wasn't a fan of the movie at all. It was just always on TV. The story of Zeus and all that it comes with went over my head. I never made the connection to what the mythology meant. All I saw on screen was Laurence Olivier in a robe and he was playing some sort of God. I didn't know what he was suppose to represent or any of that Greek Mythology at the time. I didn't know any better. I was just a kid that thought that the movie visually (at the time) was something unique and something "groundbreaking", although still a few rungs short of Star Wars mind you.

So, searching for a movie to watch, I decided to go ahead and knock the remake of Clash of the Titans off my list. Visually, this new version of the movie is stunning. It looks great. I can't comment on the 3D version as the DVD I watched was the regular 2D print of the film. But you can clearly tell that this movie was designed for the 3D audience in mind. As for the rest of the movie and the story. Meh. The only thing that I'm taking from this is now I am able to finally see what the mythology of the original film was with regards to Zeus. I can't recall if the original film even had a character named Hades in it though and I really don't remember much of the "story" either because I haven't watched it since the mid 80's.

So, what went wrong with the remake? I dunno to be honest. Maybe because it was cut a little too much from the same cloth which left surprises in store for me, other than seeing the God, Son of God and Satan connection that the story derives from. But the characters in the movie were just flat. I don't expect character development in a movie like this, but give me something to connect with at least. The only thing that I even remotely liked was Medusa. I thought this was great. But this was way shorter than I would have liked it to be. The Kraken scene didn't live up to the ground swell the movie was riding on. It too was a bit too short to my liking. I guess I wanted to see more destruction and carnage to fully sell on the idea that 'the end was coming'.

Anyway, this is definitely a Skip. Who would have ever guessed that I would say stick with the original, which is clearly the better version of the two. In a nutshell, Clash Of The Titans was a disappointment to say the least.

Let me start off by saying I've always have been entertained by Greek Mythology. The stories of Hercules, the gods, the humans, the task and great adventures were fascinating to me. Especially as a kid. I too probably did not understand the intricate details of the relationships, but nonetheless enjoyed the stories.

I'm one of those that don't understand the disdain for this remake. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great, but I thought it fun. Nostalgia for my childhood. I barely remember the original. Looking back at the trailer reminds me some good stuff and it was good for it's 1981 technology, but it's definitely dated looking now.

The remake is better looking and the acting a tad better. I still can get all caught up in the story. It just clicks with me.

I think most people automatically bash the movie because of the failed 3D conversion. Apparently it was horrendous. That's what I've picked up on over the years. As for the remake, I just see it as being nothing but eye candy and not much else. I just couldn't connect with any of the characters at all. I think the one thing that the screenwriters dropped the ball on and would have at least magnified the urgency of stopping the Kracken would have been to create some sort of relationship with the Princess that is to be served up to appease the Gods. You make it so that the Hero really does have something to lose, then his quest....for me anyway, becomes something even greater.

So what about the sequel? Do I even bother with it? I've heard a lot of negativity surrounding it.

It's the same as this, but with probably a little less thought in the script. More eye candy.

I will probably check it out just to cross off my list. Since the movie is separate from anything else, I won't have to compare it and maybe it will play better for me
