Comic-Con 2013: ‘Ender’s Game,’ ‘Dexter,’ ‘X-Files’ on Thursday lineup (http://herocomplex.latimes.com/comic-con/comic-con-2013-enders-game-dexter-x-files-on-thursday-lineup/)
Man, I didn't even realize that Comic Con was less than a week away. I thought it wasn't happening till the end of the month this year for some reason. Not sure if I'm gonna go this year. It may come down to a last minute decision. Some of the panels do look good this year, especially that of the 20th Anniversary of The X-Files with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson expected to attend, but not yet confirmed. My money is definitely on them being there. This is the event no stars are dumb enough to miss.

Comic-Con 2013: The full TV line-up (http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/07/07/comic-con-2013-tv-panels/)
Take a look at the panels this year. Sh*t man, they are making it very hard for me to walk away this year. I wanna go to the Veronica Mars panel! Duh!!
-
I wasn't able to get tickets two years ago and I haven't had enough scratch to go back since. I will say that I'm looking forward to the year that we all go and run into each other. Penny Can Meet-Up party!
-
Penny Can Meet-Up party!
Hell yeah!!!
-
You know, every year, I always say that is my last year going to Comic Con and I'm usually pretty good at sticking to my word.....all the way up to like a few hours before the doors open. All bets are off by then as I make a mad dash downtown and through the convention center. Ha. I can't believe I ever did the four-day thing. It was easier back even 10 years ago. To do a four-day event now is never going to happen. One day is enough for me. Sensory overload.
-
Coming in from out of town, I like the four day option (though I usually have to skip Sunday in order to fly back). And my senses and my feet can TOTALLY take the days and days of wandering around.
But yeah, I miss how it was ten years ago as well, when you could, if you needed to, spread your arms out while on the aisle or walk into a panel that you were interested in (or heck, get into a panel at ALL!) And the last time I went I started to seriously party (ever go to the TRS parties, Chip?) so of course I'm missing that now.
You know, they shot an episode of Beetleborgs at SDCC in 96 or 97 and it blows my mind how EMPTY the place looks... it's freakish! It's like seeing pictures of your place from the day before you moved in, "this place once looked like THIS?"
Oh man, you and I and old Mac hittin' the town together? Then we could cause some trouble!
And I think my best friend (who I haven't seen in FOREVER) might be at Comic-Con this year for Space Command, so naturally I won't be there to see him. Just my luck.
-
It was also easier to horde as much swag as possible back then as well. They even had better stuff if you ask me. Everything from Posters to Comics that became collectible the moment you picked them up. Nowadays, a lot of it is junk and throwaways. I never did the parties and I didn't even know about the TRS parties since I was very late to the game with that show. I'm still on the fence about going this year. I will know by Tuesday if that bug hits. Probably when I start seeing the endless parade of Hot Chicks in their Cos Play attire will I suddenly need to go. Haha.
-
Another motivation factor that I always enjoy is getting to test out Demo's of upcoming games that are in the pipeline before they hit the streets. The most recent demo's I played at the Con were of course Batman Arkham City, SSX, Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider and of course Gears Of War 3. I highly doubt it, but if they had working Demo's for both PS4 and Xbox One, with the new batch of next gen games, I'd stop my whining and definitely go this year.
-
Uh oh. I'm starting to feel the pull of The Con...........
It's beckoning me.
Must....resist....the.....temptation.
-
Stay strong, Chip... stay strong... with SDCC in town everything six blocks out from the Convention Center will be vacant! It'll be like Walking Dead without the Zombies! Think of the fun!
-
Actually, I'm pretty sure they are doing the Zombie Obstacle Course thing again this year. So, there's that.......
-
Speaking of obstacle courses, did you see the pictures of Molly Quinn as Mara Jade at Course Of The Force?

Nope.

Preview Night starts today. Can't wait to start watching sh*t online to see what this year has to offer. That's the great thing about YouTube. You really don't have to stress over 'not getting in' to the panels you want to attend. 95% of the time, whatever panel you fancy, it ends up online in full. Sure, most are poorly shot with their Cell Phone Cams, but it's better than nothing.

I'm looking forward to the Space Command panel for sure, and not just to see if my bro got his part (that's when they're announcing it, but I'd LIKE to think he'd tell me ahead of time).

So this has probably been asked time and time again. It's obvious the drooling love for some Female super heroes.
Why is Hollywood not jumping on that?

So this has probably been asked time and time again. It's obvious the drooling love for some Female super heroes.
Why is Hollywood not jumping on that?
What do you mean? You referring to why they haven't done 'Female Superhero movies'? They tried to get a Big Screen adaption of Wonder Women by none other than Joss Whedon. But this was way before The Avengers film and with his success in the genre now, I wouldn't be all that surprised to see the studio try to revive his vision this time around. I think studios in general just don't think Female characters can carry a movie, or one that will put 'lots of asses in seats' and most likely are using Catwoman and Elektra as prime examples. This is kind of a shame because those two movies weren't even faithful to the source material and fans knew this and is the reason why most stayed away.
-
Yes, why no female superhero movies? But you answered it.
So again, the studio 'thinks'. Why not just leave it up the good fan director? I'm sure the studio's were very hesitant with the emerging super hero direction. But they allowed the right people to put together some more goofy ass cheesy-ness.
Do the same with the female direction.
Bam, signed, done...
-
I would love to see a She-Hulk movie happen.
Well, I'm off to Comic Con. Talk to you guys later when I get back.............
-
Have fun storming the castle...
.... bring back lots of picks of you with some female super heroes.
-
I was LITERALLY about to post an article that addresses that amongst many other issues.
I want more female superheroes, and I want ORIGINAL femheroes, not She-something or SuperBatWoman or anything like that. Femheroes who can stand on their own and whose posters don't show off their butts.
Unfortunately, the issue of pre-existing properties comes up... no one wants to make something unless someone else has made it first.
-
I'm soooooooooooo tired right now. I'm beyond exhausted. I need to sort through my swag. I will post what I did and who I saw. As for the pics, that will come in a day or so when I've got them uploaded and ready to post.
-
Sooooo jealous you got in, man. I miss me some SDCC. And it's too hot to do anything else.
-
Yea, I'm envious dude.
-
How great would today have been if it had ended with a Penny Can meet-up? The three of us p*ssing about not getting into a restaurant and pretending not to be sweltering in the heat and not having anything to talk about. It would have been AWESOME
-
Oh, I would have gotten you and Mac into see Metallica who are putting on a private show for contest winners over in the Gaslamp in about 15 minutes (9pm). That would have been something to talk about....well, at least yell over.
-
That would have been AMAZING. F*CK!

Game of Thrones vs. Walking Dead - On The Front Line SDCC 2013
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dju0v_Rj1a0
I love TWD, but come on, this isn't even a horse race. Game of Thrones not only destroys TWD, it destroys pretty much everything else out there in TV land. Every episode of GoT is an epic unto itself. Can't say the same about TWD.
-
So, here is what I got. I immediately went straight to Campbell's booth to see the new Calendars and the Red Book that were new to Comic Con. Jeff has 3 different calendars this year. One was the Regular Edition, one was The Comic Con Exclusive Edition and one was the Black and White Original Art Edition. I grabbed the Comic Con Exclusive and the Black and White Editions for myself. Passed on the Regular, as well as the Red Book. Grabbed a bunch of Buttons with different 'Hot Babes' that can be found in the Calendars and a few Post Cards as well. He was also selling the Original Art that made up most of the Calendars as well. But the price tag for single pieces were insane as they ranged from 5-7K each. He had other earlier pieces in his portfolio with a bunch of prices, the most expensive piece was around 12k. The most expensive stuff of course was kept behind the table as it should be. Too many things can go wrong leaving those out for people.
As for the rest of the Con, they changed up the floor plan which threw me completely off. For the last 3-4 years, everything was pretty much set. I knew where to go when I wanted to hit certain booths. This year, all that went out the door. I spent most of my time trying to track down those same booths, which meant that I had to do a few laps from one end of the Convention Center to the next and I still didn't get to see it all. I was surprise that the CBS Booth wasn't up this year. Well, I didn't find it anyway.
I did manage to hit the Xbox One and PlayStation booth, which was at the very opposite end, away from where they normally set up. So yeah, got to play Rise and Batman Arkham Origins, which were the only games I really had my eyes on playing there. Scratch that. My biggest game that I wanted to play was Watchdogs and they did have a booth set up. But they didn't have a playable Demo for the public. It was just for the game designers to play for you. Lame. So, I just skipped that. I'm not gonna waste my time watching someone else play. I will write up a review for both Rise and Batman and my perception of the new Xbox One over in the Video Game Section.
Made sure to check out lots of booths like The Walking Dead and Black Sails from Starz. They each had a very cool booth. Kinda like going to Disneyland. The Predator booth looked cool as well. Already talked about their 3D Blu-ray here (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/predator-(1987)/msg21089/#msg21089). Of course I hit Sideshow Collectible booth and a host of other 'toy makers and statues'. I immediately fell in love with the 3 Statues that Sideshow had on display, depicting Campbell's Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy and Spider-Man. No price on them yet, but I'm seriously considering getting both MJ and GS for sure.
I saw a few celebs in and around the Con. There are those that you expect to see at signings and whatnot. It's the ones that you don't expect to run into that throws you off. Had a couple of those myself. One was Chris Connelly, another was Sarah Becker (best known from The Real World Miami, but I knew her before as an Editor at Wildstorm), another was Matt Lanter (90210). But it was his girlfriend that EVERYONE was checking out. Damn, she was hot! Off the top of my head, saw Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Henry Ian Cusick, Milo Ventimiglia, Maggine Q, Shane West, Melinda Clarke, Shane West, Aaron Stanford and Lyndsy Fonseca from Nikita. But the biggest 'get' for me was seeing the gang from Veronica Mars! Yay! Only problem is that Kristen Bell wasn't at the signing. She was at the Panel (I think), but a no show later in the day. Also bummed that Krysten Ritter was a no-show as well. The rest of the cast showed up that included Percy Daggs III, Jason Dohring. Francis Capra, Tina Majorino, Ryan Hansen, Enrico Colantoni and show creator Rob Thomas.
It's 5 in the morning right now. Can't remember everything. Going back to bed. I will post more as I remember it..............

The X-Files 20th anniversary reunion panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2013
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scnPMpDHmrM
-
I didn't watch the X-files thing, but the news, or so called 'news' about possibilities are all over the place. I no longer see a need for this. I loved the show when it was on. The movies were OK, but I don't hear people just drooling over this, until now.
-
I won't object to a 3rd film, especially if they refocus on the mythology arc of the show and give the fans answers once and fall and then call it a day. Go out with a swan song. The second film was meh. I can't remember my review, but I think it was just an "average" episode at best.
-
I remember being kinda pissed with the first one. The series was going on. Why in the hell would I pay and sit in a theater to see what's going on every week. It just didn't make sense. I liked it, but still. The 2nd was meh.
-
I didn't even see the second one. I barely remember what happened at the end of the series.
When I think of the X-Files, I think of those episode like The Lazarus Bowl, the giant mushroom, the cannibal working at the fast food restaurant, the cul de sac built on the giant trash pile, Post-Modern Prometheus (the black and white episode), Morris Fletcher...
Lemme ask you guys, what's a good movie that the X-Files movie YOU want to see to be modeled after? What would make an X-Files movie be worthy of being "a movie." Right off the bat, I gotta say you have to be able to watch it with NO knowledge of the show or mythology. Total stand-alone.

-
Really shortsighted on IGN's part to only do live streaming on days Thurs/Fri/Sat. Sure, you can argue that all the "Big News" stuff happens on those specific days each year. But come on, this is a 5 Day Event with Preview Night. They should be streaming live right now! I still want to see what's happening down there, even if there isn't any forthcoming "blockbuster" news. There are still a handful of Panels left today, the biggest of course being Breaking Bad.
-
(giddy) I have so many panels to watch! But I think I'll hold off on them for a few days so I can pick up the stragglers and delayed uploads. Sounds like a plan, right?
