Title: Who I would like to have a beer (dinner) with...
Post by: Mac on July 19, 2013, 09:18:48 am
I swore I started this subject, but guess not.

Anyway, the idea, if you could have sit down with a beer with an individual, who would they be?

Charles Barkley (http://video.msnbc.msn.com/cnbc/52513390): Up to this day, all I knew was his basketball playing, but watching this short interview, Charles Barkley sounds like a great person to sit and shoot the bull with.

Who do you have?

Am I only allowed one pick? Or can I meet the person, then excuse myself to the bathroom, climb out the window and then pick another since the drink / dinner was never fullfilled to completion, thus giving me an 'out' and a way to circumvent your "rules".  ;D

Oh he'll no. As many people as you can think of. The more the merrier... Than sneak out if you must.

Someone who wouldn't mind that I'm having water.

This is reminding me of... William Shatner has a web series called "Brown Bag Testing" where he talks to someone and they drink a mystery wine and that person uses their area of expertise to describe it (a film guy explains in special effects terms, a bodybuilder discusses it in bodybuilding terms, etc).  it's actually a neat little way to look into how their minds work.

Shatter Shatner would be a blast to shoot the bull with. That concept sounds pretty damn interesting.

It's a cute idea.  Shatner gets this reputation as being kind of self-centered and in love with his own voice or whatever but recently (maybe because of this, I dunno) he's been doing docs and my mental picture of him is him listening to other people.  Which is what creative types (writers, actors) should be doing anyway, taking it all in.

Chips latest post just reminded me...

I would love to have a beer with Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. I find them personable, funny and would just be a blast to have dinner with.

Hugh Laurie, while, I've never seen his shows, I have seen him in interviews, bits like comedy central, etc and find he would be a lot of fun sharing a beer with

What was that TVshow Shatner had where he had invited specific guests and just shoot the bull with them for 1/2 hour?

Speaking of both Colbert and Laurie, you absolutely need to watch this (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/tv/the-daily-show-vs-the-colbert-report/msg21792/#msg21792) in its entirety. No skipping or fastforwarding. It's worth every damn second of it.

I'd get a beer with Larry David and Ricky Gervais, both of who are polar opposites. With LD, I would relate to an entire conversation that was riddle with nothing but sarcasm. With Gervais, who wouldn't want to have a beer with someone that finds everything funny? I'd also echo Mac's choice with Colbert as well.

Believe it or not, but I'd also get a beer with Heather Graham and be content just to have a conversation with her.

Gervais could be a challenge.

Louis C.K. would probably make me do lots of spit takes. Best not to eat or drink around him.

Mayim Bialik

Naturally, she is a great addition to Big Bang Theory... and I knew she has real scholarly credentials, but together with her charm, she would be great to talk to.

She was recently on Bill Maher (http://www.hbo.com/real-time-with-bill-maher/episodes/12/307-episode/video/307-february-14-overtime.html#/real-time-with-bill-maher/episodes/12/307-episode/video/february-14-2014-clip-cancer-prevention-and-the-governments-role-in-food-regulation.html/eNrjcmbO0CzLTEnNd8xLzKksyUx2zs8rSa0oUc-PSYEJBSSmp-ol5qYy5zMXsjGyMXIyMrJJJ5aW5BfkJFbalhSVpgIAXbkXOA==) and just a joy to listen to...

Andrew Lincoln of The Walking Dead

Finally, he makes an appearance on The Talking Dead. Between Andrew and producer Scott Gimple were a lot of fun to show. Especially Andrew Lincoln. Not only is he fun to listen to with the British accent, but his humor just hooked me. Understated, but laugh out loud funny.

Pharrell Williams

Happy... producer, writer of a ton of artists.

Saw an interview with Pharrell on a recent Sunday Morning. Man does he impress me with his humility, smarts and great personality. He is a very interesting person I would love to chat with.

Billy Idol

I've been a fan of Idol from day one. Just saw a Sunday Morning interview and he seems like a great guy that's experienced and has learned quite a bit. Just an all around interesting guy.

Mick Jones (Foreigner)

Yet another piece from Sunday Morning, on Mick Jones of Foreigner. The man is 70 and vibrant as ever. The sit down was just so pleasant and entertaining. A down home guy that love to laugh.

Truly inspirational for us older guys, and a great person to boot.

I do too.

I happened to meet him at a party years and years ago, just said hi briefly.  This was when he had his show Penn Point, where he would discuss various topics.  Would have been very interested to pick his brain if I could think of a topic.

Weird Al Yankovic

Just watching AXS TV Dan Rathers 'Big Interview with Weird Al, and it's totally contrary to what I was expecting. Maybe because it's with Dan Rather? Weird Al not only is a great conversationalist, but he appears to be incredibly smart. It would be great to have dinner and some beers with Weird Al.

My first concert was a Weird Al concert.  Very fun, incredible showman.  I always liked the fact that the songs were funny but he took it seriously, wanting them to be of the same level of quality as the original.

That's what I saw, in a very small informal venue.

Not sure I've mentioned, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz, Al's drummer, is a very active member on drummerworld forum. Not much talk of Al, but lots of insight to that professional touring and recording world.
