I will be the first one to admit that I didn't think Office Space was all that when I first watched it on VHS when it first came out. Yes, I thought some of the scenes were funny, but by the time I finally got around to seeing the movie myself, it had taken on a life of its own and become this 'Cult Movie' that everyone had to see. So, naturally, when I did see it, I was kind of intent on going against the grain with everyone else. I found humor in the movie for sure, but I didn't think it warranted the accolades it was getting at the time.
Fast-forward over the years and I can see why the movie works. It's still not a perfect movie, but there is no denying that for anyone that has ever worked a 9-5 job, dealt with lame ass co-workers and more specifically had to deal with an incompetent Boss that doesn't know sh*t and only does what he does just to justify his own paycheck and standing with the company, you are going to relate to this movie in a big way. The movie itself really is a fantasy flick in that everyone has daydreamed at one time or another of sticking it to their boss and the company they work for, quitting their dead-end job and getting the girl of their dreams. Like I said, it works. But I do have to add that even though I do enjoy the movie quite a lot nowadays, it's still a notch or two below The Office. There is no topping that one at all which is now the standard by which all other 'Office' movies will be judged and compared to.
Hey, my Jennifer Aniston "marathon" continues. At least this isn't a Rom-Com. Ron Livingston is great as is Gary Cole. But it's Stephen Root that steals the movie. Office Space is definitely worth a Rent.
