Apparently there is a big wave of hatred toward Jack Reacher in large part because they cast the wrong "guy" in the role due to hair color and body size. Well, since I've never read the book, I really don't give a sh*t how p*ssed off people are. So, I'm just reviewing the movie for what it is as well as Tom Cruise's performance in the title role. Personally, I dug the movie a lot. This movie isn't anywhere close to being bad and I just don't get the animosity for it at all. It's a solid crime thriller that has a little bit of everything. It's got a fight scene, a car chase and a gun fight. But this isn't an action film at all. This is more of a mystery in which Jack Reacher is looking to uncover a conspiracy surrounding a random shooting in which 5 people were gunned down. It's about following the leads that get him closer and closer to uncovering the truth.

I thought Cruise was good in the role and very entertaining. I liked the character and the idea of Cruise playing a badass, ex-super soldier and not one that is invincible with super strength that is impervious to pain. I enjoyed the movie enough to want to check out the books for myself. I get that people are just going to sh*t on something regardless, even if it may be justified. For me, it wasn't an issue and I can recommend this as a definite Rent. It's enjoyable and never was there any slow parts at all. I actually liked Cruise in this film more than in any of the Mission Impossible flicks. Also staring Rosamund Pike and a small cameo by Robert Duvall.

I remember digging the villain in the flick, I can't remember who it was but I remember digging him.  See, I saw this right after Django in theaters so naturally my memory was occupied.

Yeah, I don't know who else they could have cast in the movie for the role, he's supposed to be a big, tough guy but I can't think off the top of my head another actor who can "open" a movie that would have worked out the same way.

I definitely don't like the title, but that's an issue for me of naming movies after the main character ("One Shot" or some variation therein would have been fine, I think).  And I also liked how "non-big" it was, it felt a little like the movies from the 90s, it's not a huge CGI fest... it almost feels like it's smaller in scale than the first Bourne movie (I'm not counting Damon as a possible Reacher b/c he was already IN a movie book adaptation like this).  It kind of reminds me of Drive, now that I've seen Drive, and I think early previews (especially with Cruise in that car) were making that comparison.

Dammit, why doesn't 'Search' list this?

Anyway, if you recall... my view... (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd%27s-blu-rays/what-are-you-watching-%28dvd%27s-blu-ray%27s%29/1335/)

So is this going to be turned into a series of films or what? They have a bunch of installments by way of Novels right?
