I'm a huge fan of Clint Eastwood, both as an actor as well as a director and I love Amy Adams. Take these two and stick them in a Baseball world and you have a sure fire home run, right? Not quite. Yes, the story is framed around baseball, but this really isn't a sports flick, at least not the kind you may be expecting. It's more about a father and daughter trying to repair a fractured relationship that goes back years and years. Somehow, Amy's character ends up scouting a top prospect looking to get the #1 selection in the Baseball draft. She is only there because the best scout in the business, her father played by Clint, is suffering from failing eyesight which of course would make it hard to do ones job. Or so we are led to believe.

Anyway, Trouble with the Curve is more drama than a baseball film, so if you are expecting something on par with Bull Durham and The Natural, you best keep moving along. But I will say this, the best part of the entire movie happens in the last 15 minutes, because this is where being a Baseball fan in real life does pay off in a big way. The set up was obvious from the get go. I knew that "Peanut Boy" was going to wind up being the discovery of a life time, plucked from obscurity and given a shot at the big leagues with a walk-on tryout. What makes it all the more enjoyable is that he gets to embarrass the hell out of the douche that all of baseball is calling the next "Albert Pujols". As a baseball flick, this wouldn't even rank in my Top 10 list, as a drama it's solid, with great performances from the stars as well as John Goodman, Justin Timberlake and Robert Patrick. Definitely worth a Rent.
