The first season of Weeds is a good set up for the seasons to come. I have seen Season 1 a handful of times and I really like the series as a whole and the characters played by Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, Romany Malco, Justin Kirk and Kevin Nealon. The other characters are just as fun too. But these four are the ones that make the show really work. If you have never seen Weeds before, it was basically "Breaking Bad" before there was a 'Breaking Bad'.

The main character of Nancy (Parker) is living in the suburbs and when her husband passes away, she takes up peddling weed to make ends meet to take care of her two sons Shane (Alexander Gould) and Silas (Hunter Parrish). Pretty much all of Season 1 is her slinging hash to make a quick buck. It's not until the Season Finale does she decide to up her game and manufacture the product with the help of Conrad (Malco) and her circle of friends that will make up her 'Empire'. Even though the entire season is fun to watch, I think it was and is still a bit too light and soft. There was no threat (unlike any episode of Breaking Bad, which is thick with impending danger). It also took a bit too long to define what each character is meant to do on the show.

I love the series and this season is a great season to get your feet wet. Highly recommend this as a Rent. I want to say more about the finale episode because it's got a great twist that I never saw coming the first time I checked out Weeds for myself. But I won't even dare ruin that for anyone yet to see this for themselves first.
