Season 7 of Weeds is the closet thing to what the original intent of the series was, more specifically Seasons 1-3. Nancy and her family are back to the basics of starting up and running a Weed Empire. Of course, there are plenty of obstacles getting in the way, be it lack of product, competitors, DEA....you get the idea. I liked this season for sure, but it's not without its faults. My biggest complaint comes literally at the start of this season.

The story picks up 3 years from the ending of the previous season, with Nancy having spent that time in Prison. Upon the start of this season, she is released to a half-way house because her Mexican drug cartel husband was killed in prison himself. Theerefore, there is no need to keep her incarcerated and in witness protection. Even though I wasn't particularly fond of the cartel story-line (because they stretched it too long), I felt that I was cheated in not seeing a proper conclusion to this arc. At least they could have given it one episode to wrap up instead of finishing it off between seasons.

As for the rest of the season, it was pretty good with them settling in New York. But things are not peachy in the Botwin Family. There is a huge divide between Team Nancy / Shane and Team Silas / Andy. You can feel the resentment from Silas for being lied to about his real father and from Andy for being led on and taken advantage for so many years at the hands of Nancy. I'm surprised they were actually able to come together at the end, especially with Jill (Jennifer Jason Leigh) in the mix as one big happy family. The cliffhanger was pretty good. A sniper, a gunshot, fade to black. Who gets shot? Can't wait to see how the final season plays out. Added bonus is finding out that Shane has graduated from the Police Academy. Something I never saw coming for sure.

As before, a lot of big names pop up in guest-staring roles, such as Martin Short, Aidan Quinn and Michelle Trachtenberg. But the best surprise, and one that I was hoping to see was the return of Heylia James as played by Tonye Patano. A nice little wrinkle to that was that Heylia and Dean are now a couple. Her small return went a long way to making this season feel like the old and I mean that in a good way. Still no Conrad. I'm hoping he will show in in the final season. Anyway, this is definitely worth a Rent.
