I've been waiting a long time to see 42, being that I'm a huge fan of Jackie Robinson and of course the game of Baseball. With Harrison Ford in the role of Branch Rickey, I had high expectations for the movie and the story that was going to be told. The movie starts off great and I really liked everything about it, but there was one thing that was sort of nagging at me after the first 45 minutes or so. Knowing the history of what Jackie went through on a daily basis, I felt that the movie was doing a huge disservice to the legacy of the man by making it all very sanitize. It felt like I was watching a Disney produced made-for-TV movie than an actual theatrical release.

So, this is how I thought the rest of the movie was going go down as. Wrong. I see what Director / Writers Brian Helgeland was doing because when it reaches the game against the Phillies and more to the point, Ben Chapman (Alan Tudyk) unleashing a torrent of verbal abuse toward Jackie (Chadwick Boseman) , it made the scene sting even more and really got across the hatred that was unleashed toward him and the pride that he had to swallow...to take that kind of abuse. This just shows how much will power Jackie had to move past it with so many people pulling for him. I felt the rage that finally boils over in the dugout tunnel from Jackie. Hell, I wanted to so the same thing with that bat.

Overall, I think 42 is a fantastic baseball movie and does a great job of telling the story of Jackie Robinson. Definitely worthy of a Rental. The great cast also includes Christopher Meloni, John C. McGinley, Max Gail and Lucas Black. With that said, knowing the history of Jackie and the 1947 Dodgers, I did pick up a ton of historical inaccuracies in the movie, including the Tunnel incident as it never happened. But that's besides the point as the movie was still entertaining in spite of these little flaws.
