This series finally got a profile page on Hulu. Now, it's bookmarked and I can start watching this probably 3 years after everyone else, given the status quo of FX and Hulu about airing new episodes.

Wow, just wow. This is either completely insane or refreshing like you’ve never seen on regular television. I’ll go with the later. I liked it. And I say that biting my tongue. While this is on FX, they are pushing the limits on primetime. I’m no prude… just taken back on what was allowed. There is a warning in the beginning and at each break about language, nudity and content.  The language was the most surprising, but the two ****ion scenes caught me off guard too. Again, it doesn’t bother me. I guess it shows how serious FX is on providing a raw emotional show.

No way would I even try to tell all that went on here. It’s complicated, it’s creepy, it’s uncomfortable, it’s sexy, it’s disturbing.

The look and feel was of the classic horror films of 70’s but with a nice contemporary perspective. Pacing is extremely fast. If you miss 5 minutes anywhere, you’ll be missing a lot. If they can keep up this kind of storytelling, this is going to be a great show.

The posters NOW makes sense.

The earliest it would be up is 30 days after, but most likely would be 2-3 months if ever. So, looks like I will have to avoid this thread till then, or catch a rerun o TV. Bah!!

Well, this afternoon I went to check on my Hulu Queue to see what I would be watching today, and wouldn't you know it, they have American Horror Story. This was a shock given that FX does not allow their shows to be put up online until 2-3 months after original air dates. This is how it's been for both Sons of Anarchy and Justified the last two seasons. The only reason I can think they are putting this up now is because it's a new show and they need word of mouth where as SOA and Justified already have a built-in audience.

But I'll go a step further and say that FX will put up 2-3 more episodes and then cut it off from Hulu, forcing people to watch it on TV that are now hooked on the show. It won't work on me. Having said that, I will check out the Pilot tonight, once it's spooky scary dark.  ;D

Pilot

First off I have to say that Horror is just not my bag. It's not that I hate it, but that I usually don't get anything out of it, i.e. scares. I think the last time I was scared from watching anything "horror" related was Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (Remake) and Poltergeist. And that had a lot to do with me just being an impressionable kid at the time. Since then, whenever I have watched horror movies, nothing. No scares at all. So I usually look to good story telling and characters to keep me in my seat.

So that brings me to the Pilot. That was phucked up. But I don't know if that's in a good way or a bad way. Knowing Brad's history with Nip/Tuck, I was expecting to have him push the envelope as far as he could possible go. But even I was shocked at some of the things that made it onto the air waves here. As for the story, I don't know what's creepier, the man in the latex body suit or Jessica Lange, who I didn't even know was in this series.

The story itself is a lot of fractured pieces to a much larger puzzle that will not come together anytime soon and I'm sure we will only get some answer when the season finale comes our way. So, to me there are a lot of holes right now that make no sense. The one plot point that intrigued me was Constance (Jessica Lange) alludes to the fact that she already killed the Housekeeper, Moira, which means she is Casper and only she and the immediate family that lives in the Phucked up house can see her.

If there is one thing that I can take away from this series is knowing that Connie Britton is still working so soon after the ending of Friday Night Lights. I will stick with this show just for her as she was the main reason why I gave this series a chance. But I am curious to see how this plays out and if some if not all my questions get answered this season.

This show is brilliantly shows the uncomfortable factor, tied to some very creepy people and situations. Not giving away a lot hear, but this time the house defends the inhabitants.

Again, so much going on, how does one even begin to try to recap the story and make sense.

Really enjoying this show.

Somewhat better episode than that of the Pilot. But even though this was an improvement, this show is still bugging me somewhat. It's not scary as it's just a really bizarre take on the horror genre. And Jessica Lange is freaking me out....a lot. Even with these things, I'm still interested to see where this is going.

I noticed a couple of the actresses in this one. The one that played Maria at the beginning was also the pregnant girl in Parenthood who eventually gives the baby away. And the one that played Hayden (Kate Mara) I knew very well from her short stint on Ryan Murphy's other show Nip/Tuck.

I guess FX and Hulu will be hosting from here on out, albeit 8 days after the fact.

Yup. I wasn't expecting to get a resolution to this part of the story so fast. I was expecting it to slowly reveal itself over time throughout the season.

As for Hayden, when she popped up earlier in the episode I knew she was not long of this Earth. I figured the good ole Doctor was gonna get his hands dirty. What I didn't see coming was "Scarface Dude" popping out of nowhere with shovel in hand. BAM! Ouch. I knew the the hole the Doc was digging up in the backyard was where Moira was buried. But the interesting thing here, was Doc digging up the hole because Moira was "calling to him" to do so or was he digging the hole because he knew what would befall Hayden?

Hmmmmmmm?

Overall a great episode.

FX Renews American Horror Story for Season 2
Quote
American Horry Story has been renewed for a 13-episode second season.

"It's one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience—it's something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up, network President John Landgraf said Monday in announcing the renewal. "Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with Nip/Tuck, Glee and now American Horror Story, which will be scaring FX's viewers to death for many years to come."

American Horror Story stars Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton as a couple who moves to a new — and creepy — house in Los Angeles with their teenage daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga). The series has been averaging 4.2 million total viewers and is on track to become the highest-rated first season of any FX series.

I think it's pretty interesting the people behine Glee are the same for American Horror Story. Talk about diametrically opposed.

Have you ever seen Nip/Tuck? This is exactly what I expect from Ryan Murphy and company. It's Glee that I'm more shocked about. If you haven't seen their original series, by all means pick it up. It's unbelievably addicting and awesome.

I've heard that as well as several others like Dexter that I've completely missed the boat on. Maybe, just maybe I can pick up whole seasons sometime. I am absolutely terrible at linear show watching. I am trying very hard with Parenthood and American Horror Story. I tried with Lost, but in the long run, see that I saved myself a lot of frustration.

Episode 4: Halloween (Part 1)

This show is seriously creeping me out. As for Part 1, there is a continuity error I believe regarding Moira. She is dead and is stuck at the house and can't move on. So,  A) How is she able to go visit her Mother in the retirement home? and B) How can she physically disengage the breathing tube from her? Hmmmmm? Eh? If the answer is already revealed, Mac, leave it in a spoiler. No, leave it in a "moving" spoiler!!!! (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_biggrin.gif)

Addy's mask was creepy. It reminded me of the Kimber Doll from Nip/Tuck. Bah! I need to stop watching anything from Ryan Murphy!!!

Zachary Quinto fits in nicely with show. His eyebrows always scared the hell out of me. Now, he has found a fitting place to show them off.

Halloween (Part 2)

What a hell of an episode! We get some answers, while opening up a whole new can of worms. Pretty big reveal in that Tate's mom is Constance. And based on what the Cheerleader said to him about being 34, married and having babies, that would suggest that he has been wandering around as a Ghost for 15+ years or so because I'm guessing they were the same age back in High School when he killed her along with the rest of the Ghost squad. And lending further proof he is a ghost is that he hasn't aged. Look hard enough and you will see that Alessandra Torresani (Caprica) was in the Ghost Squad as well.

The writers are messing with my head. The entire time, I'm thinking that Hayden is a Ghost and that the only ones that can see her are those that live in the house, but then the security guard shows up and is able to see her and transport her to the Police Station, only to find out she wasn't in the car. No way did she some how break out of the car without his knowing about it. So...she is a Casper for sure.

I think.

Who knows anymore with this show.....

I will say this, I view this series more of a Psychological Thriller rather than a Horror genre. That's my take on it.

Well, if they are basing this theory on the nurse that passed out that was checking to see if the baby was okay, they couldn't be way off the mark. She is narcoleptic. She is prone to doing that wherever and whenever. Nope. No demon babies here, thank you very much.

TV: 'American Horror Story' Gets 90-Minute Finale, Extended Second Season!

Quote
One of the reasons I've turned more of my attention to the small screen is because the budgets are ballooning and we're getting nearly a new movie every week (being that the big shows run about an hour in length). "American Horror Story" didn't start off well, but it's been building towards an explosion of awesome, which makes me seriously pumped for the full 90-minute long finale. Deadline has the story.

FX's hot new drama series "American Horror Story's" 13-episode first season will be actually 12.5 episodes. The horror drama's first season finale on December 21, which had been slated as two-hour, will now be 90-minutes. The trimming of the finale is a result of "American Horror Story's" very aggressive production schedule which left no breathing room. More details inside.

The project was picked up to pilot in late February. Creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk couldn’t work on the pilot until they wrapped the second season of "Glee," so it didn’t start shooting until late May. In a quick turnaround, FX picked up the pilot to series on July 18, and it was rushed to production 2 weeks later to make the Oct. 5 premiere date.

With the first episode after the pilot doing some reshoots and some of the episodes requiring 8-day shoots vs. the standard 7 because of complex scenes, production on the series is now at a point where Episode 13 would wrap on Dec. 15, leaving no time for post-production to make the Dec. 21 air date. And because of the holidays, it didn’t make sense to push that last episode to Dec. 28 or the new year.

Murphy had been discussing the issue with FX president John Landgraf for the past few weeks. There was an option for the series to drop the 13th episode altogether and air an hourlong finale, but I hear Murphy was able to put together a plan for a 90-minute episode to give viewers a satisfying ending. "American Horror Story" has already been renewed for a second season after a red-hot ratings run, punctuated by another series high this week, and I hear that its second season may be extended beyond 13 episodes.

Well, we finally get the whole story regarding Nora and Charles Montgomery. Kinda. I know there is more to the story, but we get a fuller picture of what a f*cked up family they were/are. We also get to see exactly what the connection Larry (Denis O'Hare) has with Constance (Jessica Lange) as well as finding out that he wasn't the arsonist he claimed to be.

And speaking of Jessica Lange. Just...wow. The entire season she has rocked her role and this episode in particular will get her an Emmy nomination. If it doesn't, I will personally drive up to LA with an 18 count carton of eggs and go to town on their offices. She definitely deserves not only a nom, but should be crowned for what she is bringing to the role.

Why this series is not on the Nickelodeon channel is a mystery to me.

Actual House For Sale!

No mention of ghosts (http://www.joebabajian.com/current-listings/337/1120-westchester-place/)

In other brief news, the setting for numerous nightmarish events on the horror series is on the market for a cool $4.5 million by real estate agent Joe Babajian. (Let's all chip in and buy it together!) The six-bedroom, five-bath abode covers 10,440 sq. feet and rests on a lot that is nearly 30,000 sq. ft. Located at 1120 Westchester Place in Los Angeles, the Alfred F. Rosenheim mansion is described as an "irreplaceable masterpiece comprised of a 3-story main house plus a grand ballroom currently used as a recording studio." They add, "This residence evokes the quality and grandeur of a bygone era."

Oh snap! This series just keeps getting better and better because it goes against what is expected or what I would call the "formula" for writing drama or horror on TV. I did not foresee what was about to come...

Yahoo news:

New Cast and New Roles: While Ryan revealed that he is talking to "a handful" of the season-one actors about returning in new roles in season two, he told reporters that next year's main cast will be all new faces—which was the plan from day one. "Some of them will be coming back. There will be familiar faces and also some new faces," Murphy teased. "The people that are coming back will be playing completely different characters, creatures, monsters, etc. [The Harmons] stories are done. People who are coming back will be playing entirely new characters." Unfortunately, he stayed completely mum on which actors might be coming back. "I would have them all back in a heartbeat. I think we'll announce the full cast and what the new storyline is going to be some time in February."

New Location: "What you saw in the finale was the end of the Harmon house. The second season of the show will be a brand-new home or building to haunt," Murphy said. "Just like this year, every season of this show will have a beginning, middle and end. [The second season] won't be in L.A. It will obviously be in America, but in a completely different locale."

New Theme: This season's theme was infidelity, and season two will also have an overlying theme running through the episodes. "The season we're planning now is very different from the California house approach," Murphy revealed. Now here comes the cool part: "There is a clue in the last three episodes where we resay what the next season will be about." Get to searching, AHS fans! And since the new season will have a new building and location, the opening credit sequence will change as well, but Ryan said he will be "hopefully" using the same artist who created season one's incredibly chilling sequence.

I keep forgetting that I'm actually a week behind everyone else since that's how it is on Hulu. So, I avoid all talk or press releases pertaining to the show. But this last few episodes have phucking ROCKED! That's all I will say.

So we were able to catch up with the last 3 episodes. The first thing I noticed is it has been awhile since I've watched it and easily got lost on who was a ghost and who was not. Luckily I was able to watch the 3 in about 1-1/2 hours. That was nice. Lots of surprises including the death of Violet. The show consistently tests the boundaries of conventional television. Thank gawd FX has the balls.

I think the best part of this show has been the slow reveals. Every corner brings something new and unexpected. And THAT's what I look for in a story.

The death of Vivien just helps set up season 2. I don't think people will be to distraught at a whole new storyline, location and people. Heck, these guys (creator Ryan Murphy (http://www.fearnet.com/news/b24906_american_horror_story_creator_ryan.html)) might be chiseling away at some new thinking in television series.
