Believe it or not, but I'm just now getting around to watching Pan's Labyrinth for the first time. Knowing what Guillermo del Toro brings to the table, I knew that this would be rich in fantasy and fairy tales with characters never before seen. What I didn't expect was that this story is tied directly into Spanish Civil War. I think the movie is great, but I was expecting a lot more Fantasy elements to it. I would say bout 75% of the film is grounded in "reality" and the rest with fantasy. This isn't a bad thing. I actually liked that the plot juxtaposes these two worlds to great effect. Definitely worth a Rent.

Del Toro consistently entertains with his visions.

I was taken back at how brutal some scenes got. My lord.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting the amount of violence in a movie that would be marketed to young kids. I get and understand now why a lot of parents have condemned this movie., which I had heard about over the years.
