It has been years since I've seen Road to Perdition. I love gangster flicks and period pieces set in the 1930's for obvious reasons. Great cast of characters that include Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law and Daniel Craig. Of all the characters, I would say that Craig was the most interesting because of his serious 'Daddy' issues, which made him very unpredictable. Sam Mendes does a fantastic job of recreating this world and it's shot beautifully. The best scene of course is the 'Massacre in the Rain'. I love it when a director can take such a violent scene and juxtapose it with soft, airy music that defies the logic of the two working so well with one another. John Woo did something very similar in Face / Off, but instead used Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Road to Perdition isn't perfect though. My only complaint about the movie is the setup. It takes way too long before we get started. What takes 40 minutes should have been established within 15-20 minutes into it. Once we see what the plot is with Hanks and his son on the run, it's a nice ride to the very end. Still worth a Rent if you're a fan of the genre or the actors involved.
