VVForums (http://www.vvforums.com/index.php)

So, Boyinblack sent me a link to this site last night and I have been reading a lot of stuff about Vinnie since then. Some whacked out, f*cked up sh*t involving VV fans over there. It's pretty good stuff to read. I will be doing reviews for both of Vinnie's albums for sure, but for now, I am totally hooked on what I'm reading at the moment. Will post more as I read.......

I found it very interesting as to why all the hate. It stems from VV doing a pre-order for his Box Set back in 1996-98. The sticker price was around $120. About 1000 'rubes' paid for it. Do the math....that's how much VV walked off with. The only problem is that there never was a box set and of course he never returned the money. Well, he paid back one person that was smart enough to get lawyers involved......

I'm currently reading this thread (http://www.vvforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1717&sid=959c7ee85980d7562dcac50df2b66927), which is very bizzare to say the least. The guy is whining about getting booted out of the forum and how he is over it and has moved on and yet here he is, practically begging to get back in. Yeah, he's moved alright.

the (well nearly) entire group are very dysfunctional.

the assumption is he sold 1000 pre-orders.....my guess is it was probably far less...maybe 100-300...it's still money people paid....but I think they are jumping to a lot of conclusions on things.

I don't understand why Vinnie doesn't give them all digital downloads of the material...as some sort of apology...even like that with maybe a sent signed photo or something....if he's broke of super tight on cash....it would at least be a cheaper option to start making amends

I honestly wonder more than anything how Vinnie survies...he must get desperate women to take care of him.

This^^ was foremost in my mind. I know he can't be living off of Lick It Up royalties. That stuff would evaporate quickly. I get why he did those expo's in makeup a while back for some quick cash. But that was years ago. So, how he is still living day to day with no other source of income is probably the biggest mystery outside of where the f*ck he could be.

The other thing that has been on my mind is how the hell did Gene and Paul get Vinnie to come in to write for Revenge. Even back then he was already doing his 'Howard Hughes' recluse lifestyle.

I think it's women...I really do...he's got that little cult of women that love him and I think they probably work as dental assistants or you know have decent jobs...probably aren't the hottest chicks on the planet...but he's got a home and can sit on his ass and **** around...don't forget he's in his early 60's (I believe) so odds are he's with a woman around that age...I am sure that's what's going on.  He probably has some beater girlfriend who I hope he treats well...she works and supports him...it's probably exciting to say I am dating the ex KISS guitarist.

what state does he live in...I am sure it's been mentioned there.

one guy really did know his sister Donna which was how he knew it wasn't her on the message boards because he said she was very nice in person and they worked in the same office...she's actually brought him some gifts because she knew he was a BIG KISS fan///...and Vinnie pretending to be his sister online didn't KNOW this guy....so he knew right away it wasn't her...because they knew each other.

whoooopS!

Last I heard he was living somewhere in Nashville and that tidbit was maybe 6 months ago. But given how much false info is out there regarding him, even that "location" should be taken with a grain of salt.

I found that Mark Slaughter interview (http://www.legendaryrockinterviews.com/2013/10/28/mark-slaughter-talks-in-depth-about-vinnie-vincent-early-slaughter-touring-las-vegas-scene-and-more/) to be the most eye opening thing I've read about VV.

The one thing that stood out for me that showed Mark's character as a person (in a good way that is) and shows what he was dealing with in Vinnie was when Mark said to Vinnie "I rather lay in the gutter with Dana, then continue on with you". I'm paraphrasing here, but you get the gist.

I think this is the "portal" to the real VV web site

pass through these doors and you might not ever return...next thing you know...you'll be sending Vinnie $500 a year to be a member

http://officialvinnievincent.forumco.com/login.asp?target=default.asp

I did sort of get the impression he might ask for money from people there...like a suggested fee or donation...did you get that idea...I saw the number $500 mentioned in one thread....but I wasn't sure what exactly it was referring to.

It won't let me beyond the registration page and I have no desire to go any further. Besides, this current VV Forum is gonna keep me busy as I catch up on the dirt.

Question, if you knew that Vinnie made some unannounced appearance at Comic Con, but it meant that you had to shut down your booth to run to the other side of the hall.....would you? Of course you would! He's handing out free Pink Jackson Flying V guitars to the first 200 people!

No. I mean like he was just walking around and people were starting to talk that he was in the building and somehow the news got back to you. Right now you asking yourself "if he is just walking around, how the f*ck is he giving away 200 Flying V?". To that I answer.....Magic! F*cker!

I did that exact thing with Gene...I happened to walk down an aisle and there he was....and like 2 minutes later he was going a question and answer like 3 feet in front of me.  I got to ask him a question and he came right up to me...within a foot or two...was super awesome

it was back when we both kind of looked like each other...and I asked him if he might be my dad!

hahaha

(seriously)

he asked me what was my moms name?

and I said Judy...and he goes...yup!

hahahaha

totally true

I can't put my finger on it (and maybe don't want too!!) not sure if it's the pink forums...or just the scum ball people there...it's like the dregs of the earth....I am sad Vinnie has those **** heads as his most vocal fans...they are f*cked up people.
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent Discography
Post by: boyinblack80 on December 07, 2013, 02:16:17 pm
I am of the mind that with some proper people around Vinnie he could easily fix what's been wrong and have a LOT of fun over the next few years.

I'd hire someone and basically get online and say here's our plan/

"We got ourselves in a funky spot...we didn't own the rights to the music and the box set ended up dragging on...all the work, time, and money we spent and you invested was used up trying to fight to get this thing out...and we failed at it...it was embarrassing, we didn't know what to do...we didn't have the funds to pay back people because we'd spent the time and money working on it."

This is our plan moving forward:  "we want to get some downloadable songs together....just nice demos...those are free for anyone who order the box set and have not received it...it's not much but it's a start.  We'd also like to send you a little photo package signed and numbered from Vinnie....this will include personal photos, and lots of neat rare glimpses behind the scenes"

I'd try and work with that for about 1 year....then move into phase two:  Getting out and either getting a guitar endorsement or starting a proper kickstarter to record a new record...I think some fans would be very leary....but the key would be what he did the year leading up to that "event"

if he was online, showing himself working, and recording, having some free downloads for people who got screwed etc...that would I think begin to mend fences, then hopefully he could funnel some of the money from the kickstarter back to these people....say %25...as a start.  75% goes to the new project and the other 25% goes to help pay bills and that past debt he's incurred/  Within 3-5 years he could be back on his feet and probably as big of guitar hero as ANY of his peers.

BUT; That is if he is even interested in playing music which he might not even be into.

Just based on what I have read so far, and this too has to be taken with a grain of salt given the fact that a lot of the postings are ported over from the other site as well as personal emails, is that Vinnie should NOT be running any kind of forum. Period. What I'm seeing is that he is extremely sensitive to anyone that talks ill of him. As soon as that happens. BAM! They get banned from the forum. He doesn't seem to have a thick skin and can't take any kind of criticism. So, should he try to relaunch his career, he needs to stay away from forums, Facebook, etc....because he feels like he is getting burned again, it will be the same sh*t all over again. Also, he needs to let go of the idea that everything has to be "perfect".

I already knew the story about recording an idea album that was set to be released and a few days later he erases everything. I had forgotten that bit of news until I saw someone else mention it on the forum. But that mentality has to go because if he can't give himself a deadline, record and make a few adjustments and leave at that, he will continue to do what he has been doing for 30 years. Nothing. He's Axl Rose, but with a Guitar in place of a mic.

I edited my post a little and added a few other ideas.

Honestly I think my plan would totally work for him...in 3-5 years he'd be as big as Ace is now.

:)
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent Discography
Post by: boyinblack80 on December 07, 2013, 02:38:33 pm
it's very tough being a perfectionist...look the reality is...both you and I suffer with the same thing

there's no reason you shouldn't be coloring..but for whatever reason you won't pull the trigger...same goes for me and drawing

but we are talking about Vinnie here...he needs a few good people behind him and one very strong person in front of him...that basically he respects and he can trust....that can guide his way

and I totally agree..get the **** off the boards....he can't do it though

even if he was giving a proper webmaster material and say video and audio...some new still photos of him prepping his next project...he'd not be able to stay away

and I've seen it first hand in my own business...some people cannot handle message boards and fans talking ****.

you have to just say...**** it...I don't care what they think...haters are going to hate and flood the boards...the other 100K people who don't post love this.

hate and jealousy seems to inspire people to post...big fans don't tend to be as vocal...but will go to your shows, will buy your songs and downloads...and will throw money at your kickstarter!

the reality is...shut down the boards...have a blog with no comments...or a web site that only has HIS side of things

**** the fans...they can go to another site.

I think he needs the interaction though.

I'd maybe communicate with some sane fans and have them be his voice and "internet" wranglers and damage control people for a bit....you know..some **** comes on they **** block the **** out of him
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent Discography

The question is, do you think there is a market in this day and age for the type of playing he was doing 30 years ago? If he has evolved beyond that, I'd definitely check it out. But if it was anything like the first Vinnie Vincent Invasion album, I doubt there would be any interest for it beyond those that populate VVForums, etc....

I love his contributions on Creatures of the Night and of course what he did on Lick It Up. But VVI was a complete disaster. The follow up (All Systems Go) was marginally better, but still had a few clunkers that were all "flash" with no substance. I think in order for him to really be successful, he needs a real band, with equal partners to keep him in check. If it's 'his way or the highway'......well, you know how that story ends.

I do...because Vinnie fans are fans of what he did.

so all these people who are still around...they still like KISS...and they clearly still like him

I'd have to guess world wide he's still got easily 20-60K fans...probably more

that is a great start...even if he doesn't tour...if his product was handled right...he'd make money...it would have to be music paired with collectibles though....something not so easily shared.

a shirt with every CD $25 etc....whatever something like that

Getting back to what you said about Vinnie trying to relaunch himself, all he has to do is watch a video of what he did years ago, take notes and then execute his plan. I almost bought lick it up a couple of times....the cover because it's white...can look kind of dingy...so it's tough to find a "pretty cover"

I am looking right now....seems like Creatures has gone UP in price...not sure if it's just a couple of greedy sellers though or some super rare version I am not remembering/

I STILL remember seeing and buying Lick It Up at Warehouse Records over on Sport Arena Drive. Remember, it was across the street from Tower Records. We have never talked about that particular Warehouse. I know you remember it. How could you not? But yeah, that's where I saw Lick It Up for the first time and it FLOORED me. The cover.....had me tripping! That's Gene! That's Paul! And that's what Eric looks like! Didn't have a clue who the guy wearing pink was. Haha. I still have the same Vinyl album from that store.

oh yeah I'd totally shop at that store...if I think hard enough I am nearly sure I bought some KISS there too...let me think/

I for sure got the first KISS record Tower Records and I know I originally got Alive II at the Marine Base down by old town...they had a department store and I LOVED going there and looking at the records.

That has happened to me a few times as well. I still don't get the mentality of other buyers. It has be some sort of shill bidding program because as much as I love COTN, there is no way that is a 'Hot' Item to get if you know what I mean.

I agree, I mean there's no way within 20 minutes of me putting the bid someone stumble upon that auction and decided that they needed to bid right then and there, and outbid me when they could have added a watch and then sniped it at the end. And I don't get why the prices of the other pieces are so expensive all of a sudden its like 30 to 40 dollars more than it used to be. Where we seen the glow in the dark cover sealed for between 70 and  95 bucks?

Shocking! Well, I've known for years that Vinnie played with Dan Hartman prior to joining KISS, but I don't know what is the bigger shock here is. Is it that this video exist (which I didn't know about till now) or whether it's seeing G.E. Smith jumping up and down with a Bass around his neck.

it would be funny if every time they cut back from his fingers to a full shot of him he looks more and more like a woman as the video played on.  I still have no idea how all of a sudden halfway through the video he decides beads and braided hair in the  back is the new look he wants to run with....and  his hair is thicker on top?

all done. Good video it would be very tough to learn what he does, but he's a damn good player.  sloppy and super chromatic but he's got skills for sure.  and he seems like a nice and very humble dude, not all these guitar players come across that way that's for sure.  some of them seem like c o c k y pricks.

I find it very odd that Vinnie doesn't have an Official Website Page, especially now when social media is at an all-time high with the amount of traffic that exist for everyone. Even more odd is that he would try to sell Box Sets and whatever else through a 'Fan Forum' which in itself makes it even more idiotic when the goal is to look legitimate and make paying customers feel a bit safer in spending their hard earned cash.

I voted 'Other' in the Poll asking what is Vinnie Vincent's Best Album. My 'Other' is of course Lick It Up. If he had written and played at least 75% of Creatures, that would have been my choice. But with Lick It Up being the only complete album of his under the KISS name, that wins instead.

Wow! Vinnie Vincent. Haven't really thought about him in a long time. Personally, I have never been a fan. His guitar playing is a bit too showy for me. And, the Jackson never looked right to me onstage with KISS. Frankly, with Bruce Kulick in the studio I am not sure how Vinnie even got selected to work with KISS at all.

Welcome aboard Tom! Yeah, I'm still in the dark about how and why Gene and Paul brough Vinnie back to write on Revenge. If I were Bruce, I'd feel hurt and betrayed to have another guitar player "writing" new songs for the album. I really wish Gene and Paul would finally just come clean about all the "demands" Vinnie made, be it when he was a "member" of KISS and during Revenge. They are so cryptic about everything that it has actually added to the myth of Vinnie rather than having him disappear, which is what they would have liked all along. Hey, wait....Vinnie did disappear! Ack!

Hey Tom...we go crazy here but try and be honest and fair...welcome aboard!

It was interesting watching his guitar instructional tape for me (and I'd not consider myself a fan of his from before, so I am coming at this with a very even playing field.)  But he's got a very interesting background for his playing...his parents I guess were very heavily into country music and his dad I think he said played steel pedal guitar, and his mother sang....there was music at his house all the time and he'd join in and play.  Before he said that in the video I was noticing his middle finger doing sweeps on his pick hand as his was alternate picking and I was thinking "am I seeing what I think I am??"

it's a pretty impressive thing he's doing.

his stuff gets very disonate though which is probably going to turn off a lot of people (myself included at some point) just because although "any" note can work in a run....it's only interesting for so long before it just sounds like you are running your finger up and down the fret board "willy nilly"

Vinnie's playing reminded me a little of Chastain's work.  check out this song...it's actually quite good but you'll hear what I am talking about in terms of chromatic runs/ and again I'll go back to Vinnie's HUMILITY.  The guy was NOT some ****y prick on his video which back then you'd see quite a bit...it was like they were slumming it doing these videos and didn't want to be there.

Vinnie reminded me a tiny bit of Randy Rhoads on it funny enough.  I like the guitar he used in the video.....it's an interesting twist on a V.

here's that Chastain song...it really gets going about 40 seconds in...there's a little intro that is kind of a build up before that

I've watched those Ace clips a few times. I just wished the company that put the videos out would stick to the tab basics and just have the tab on screen instead of trying to make it like "Guitar Hero / Rockband". I like to look at all of the tab at once and see where the breaks are and it makes it easier for me to remember stuff. The same company put out George Lynch's as well and the stuff flies so fast that you have to just grab the tabs from the internet to see exactly what he is doing.

Vinnie Vincent Pink V Guitar (http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINNIE-VINCENT-KISS-pink-1988-Jackson-signature-guitar-1-of-a-kind-autographed-/390679477425?pt=Guitar&hash=item5af64fbcb1)

This looks legit. I would think this would go for more than the asking price of 11k given the fact that it's from the original run back in '88, signed by the entire VVI band and looks to be in solid condition for its age. With that said, the most I'd pay for this would be 1k.
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: boyinblack80 on December 08, 2013, 02:26:37 pm
Interesting there's no Vinnie Vincent signature.....but it looks legit.  I don't think 11K is that bad....I'd say 9-10 is more reasonable....11K is trying to steal an extra "K" and to knowledgeable collectors that can be offensive and kill a sale and interest.

Let me be perfectly clear about something so I make sure no one misunderstands. Vinnie can play a guitar. His style is not one that I particularly care for. I subscribe to the belief that less is more in a lot of musical phrasing. I think he would disagree. Have no idea what went on in the collective KISS mind when they brought him in. (The pink Jackson I thought would send Paul and Gene running the other way.) And, I think they won't speak about it because they know they made a mistake and don't want to have to admit they made a mistake. And having him to help write later on seems even more ridiculous to me. I mean, by then, they already knew Tommy Thayer. He and Black and Blue toured with KISS in 85. I prefer the styles of Ace and Tommy in KISS. Subtle, not in your face, and matches the tone of of the songs perfectly. And let's face it, Vinnie is not that type of player. The other reason I couldn't figure out why he was in KISS is because even in all the KISS makeup and gear, he didn't exactly project masculinity. Had that Ziggy Stardust Bowie thing going on in my opinion.

Oh Brother! So, I revisited the VVForums tonight and there is a new thread being talked about regarding the "Real Vinnie Vincent" Facebook page and from what I have read, he is doing the same thing, i.e. un-friend, booting, deleting people and comments from anyone that mentions the Box set and DVD release. Ugh. If this is true, when will f*cking learn from his ever-growing laundry list of mistakes? I sent a Friend Request to see if I was able to get in as it seems to be very very veeeeeeeeeeery exclusive. Hahahaha. I doubt I will make the cut. Who the f*ck cares anyway.

All the interviews I've seen of him, be it in makeup with KISS, VVI and the Expo, he seems very smart and genuine. But I really think that the Internet has done so much damage to his psyche. Some people just can't handle that kind of scrutiny and yet they still keep coming back for more. Now that I think about it, the huge price tag to gain access kind of weeds out those that would talk sh*t about him. A non-fan isn't going to pay that kind of money and then immediately start ripping on him. But a fan that is willing to pay the cash is more or less a loyal groupie and will do nothing but kiss his ass. Pun intended.

I think his whole "sell stuff online and then never come through with it" has got to be poor management or "friends" trying to run his career. I think he is in over his head and doesn't really know much about what it takes to produce and market stuff and that it takes money to make money. All the interviews I've watched of his, he comes across as very likable. So, if and when he shows up on TMS, I think he will be very gracious about it. It would go a long way to mending fences with fans.

Ya know, if they get Vinnie to do TMS, you know that he will obviously be asked to be the musical guest as well. But this is where he should definitely mix it up. Instead of doing the traditional axe slinging that everyone else does, he should show off his Banjo skills!!!! Unplugged!!!!!!! Maybe get Jim to join in with his wicked Mouth Harp skills and Don could finally showcase his Jug skillz.  ;D

Duuuuuuude! I forgot all about this pic. As I remember it, it was a centerpiece in either Guitar For The Practicing Musician or Guitar World. Now that I think about it, I think it was in fact a Charvel Ad. Talk about having a deja vu moment. I haven't seen this pic in well over 20 years, if not longer!! So, how much money do you wanna bet that Vinnie strong-armed his way into dead center for the pic, elbowing out Steve Vai and Jake E. Lee?

Here's who's who:

0 - Steve Lynch (Autograph)
1 - Spacey T. (Sound Barrier, Fishbone)
2 - Michael Sweet (Stryper)
3 - Chris Hager (Rough Cutt)
4 - Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne)
5 - Matt Thorne (Rough Cutt bassist)

I've been hitting the KISSFAQ site here and there when I get the chance, but tonight I've reading up on what they think of Vinnie. I didn't think it was possible, but these guys bash him more than the other VVForum site. Funny stuff. Enlightening to say the least. I will say this about KISSFAQ, I love them for one thing because they constantly bashed the idiots of 3 Sides Of Whatever they wanna call themselves. They bash them for the same reasons why I find them annoying and ill equipped to talk about a band they think they know. Nice to know I'm not the only one that thinks they truly suck at what they do.

there's so many KISS websites

it makes my head spin/ I don't know where to read anymore.  Vinnie's own forum made me ill.   I really like Kisstory Science Theater ten times more than 3OTC

check them out.  They are way better.

Okay, while reading more at KISSFAQ, It dawned on me how both sites obviously feed off one another and then I started making connections from VV Forum about certain "members" being alias for Vinnie on other sites. I am not noticing the alias on KISSFAQ as being him. Like you said.....head......ex......plo......DING!

FYI (I heard this a few days ago) but that new VV FB page was shut down for a bit and then relaunched, but the signed VV shirts have been "pushed back". Seriously, what the f*ck is his problem? How is a f*cking shirt that hard to make? Don't take this to think I care about his shirts as I don't. I'm just totally flabbergasted that he continues to pull this sh*t with fans and that there are fans that still have faith in the guy to come through.

I find it somewhat funny that the 3 Sides Guy (Michael) is a member of KISSFAQ, but the site has no qualms about bashing him for his show (and his "knowledge"). Hahahaha. Crazy. Who would subject themselves to that kind of torture? Um........an attention  w h o r e  of course.

Vinnie Vincent NAMM Booth (2011)

Was googling VV Guitars and stumbled across a few pics of the booth. This booth in particular I already knew about, but I've never seen any with John5 actually there. And yes, that chick he is talking to is Vinnie's wife. Now I'm sure you already know the story about these VV Model guitars and what happened at this NAMM show. In the interest you don't know, Vinnie commissioned to have these guitars (there was actually a 5th guitar not pictured) specifically with the intent of mass producing a line to sell to the public. For whatever reason or another, Vinnie decided to not sell them and actually stole the 5 guitars right off the booth display from the guitar builder without ever even paying for his work. The other thing is that Vinnie apparently tried to sell the 4 your see for $9k and the Special Edition (5th) Guitar for 12k. What I want to know is, if he really did steal these guitars as the rumor seems to be. I read on both VV Forum a while back and KISSFAQ last night and heard a lot of people verifying he indeed did steal them at the show.....if that is the case, how the f*ck does NO ONE get a picture of the most ellusive man since Howard Hughes? Don't you think a VV sighting would have been HUGE news? With his Wife overseeing the booth, it is safe to assume that he was in fact there. The question then is.......was he wearing a Badrock mask to hide his identity?  ;D

They really don't go too far back before his KISS days in the Podcast, but I have read elsewhere that he has always been insane to some degree long before his KISS days. The guys they interviewed in the podcast talk about how he literally stole songs, equipment, bouncing checks for his "band mates" just to get them away from him long enough for him to move on and out of the picture. All of it is tied up with money and he has a history of basically stealing from anyone that he can manipulate. So, this whole Facebook thing with the Box Set and T Shirts isn't new. He has always been f*cking people over one way or another.

The reason why he will never release new music or any of his "outtakes" and demos is because there are too many people that have sued and won and any proceeds from sales of his stuff will be garnished by the IRS. So, that's why he doesn't want to release stuff that he deems valuable, just to have someone else profit from it.

You know what's fascinating about the VV story is it reminds me ironically enough about the big years with KISS in the 70's. When you and I were just kids, we always fantasize about who was behind the makeup and would we ever see them without it?  It's the same thing with Vinnie. Will he ever make a public appearance? Will he show up at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It's fun.....even if we already know how the book ends. This guy is an enigma and it's just so weird that for someone to have such a small window of "fame" to generate this kind of debate, be it here or across Internet-land is crazy. Like I said in a conversation I had with you about 6 months ago....THIS would make a great movie.

The thing about the Body guards was funny. Delusional.....but funny. The original VV forum (DV Forum) has taken on a life of its own. Listening to Episode 42 - Vinnie Vincent Special Part 3 - Robert Fleischman (http://dbgeekshow.blogspot.com/2012/07/episode-42-vinnie-vincent-special-part.html). Now THIS should be interesting. Can't wait to hear what Robert has to say. For those that don't know, he was the singer on the first Invasion album but had a contract dispute with the label and that's when they brought in Mark Slaughter. I know that after the band imploded, Vinnie ended up working with Rob again. Wonder how old these podcast are and if Rob has stayed in touched with VV. We shall see......

Dana sounds like a prick...if what Rik Fox said was true....the dude has a typical LA f*ck head mentality (pretty sure he's not originally from there...but the weak willed will fall into that attitude really fast there if you have it in you which clearly he did) who was just sniffing around for deals and bonuses pairing people up (Randy with Ozzy...can you say finders fee...I am sure that is what he was all about or at least trying to suck up to these guys as much as possible) because he knew his ugly mug was never going to get him too far in any bands....because he was chasing the pretty boy nonsense in the first place.

jealous prick comes to mind.

The music featured in the Part 3 Podcast is by Rob's band The Sky, which I've never heard of till today. I gotta say, there's some stuff there that I actually like. I'm surprised because I hated his singing on the first Invasion album. He's doesn't sing anything like that on The Sky (based on just what I've heard in the podcast). But there is definitely an interest there that I would like to check out more.

Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: Chiprocks1 on February 10, 2014, 08:17:34 am
The Part 4 Podcast was damn good. I would say this part is definitely the best out of the four and Hirsh in particular was very interesting to hear. Some big praise from thrown at Vinnie regarding his singing voice. I've only heard a couple of songs where VV does the singing and I do think he has a great voice from what I heard. But Hirsh is saying he has one of THE greatest rock voices of all time. High praise indeed. Now I get and understand why most VV fans want the unreleased demos and alternate tracks because most of them have his singing on it and now I want to hear them just based on Hirsh's glowing endorsement. Sadly, it will never happen. As for the rest of the interviewing, it's doesn't speak well of  VV. More of the same "incredible songwriter, lousy human being" and the stuff he did to Hirsh is just not cool.

The other half of the podcast had A&R rep Tom Silver who worked at Chrysalis Records and more importantly with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. So his stories had a lot more credibility as he saw first hand the sh*t that VV was pulling while all that stuff was going down and why & how the band Slaughter came to be.

Vinnie Vincent Invasion (1988)

(http://i.imgur.com/GNTXYMa.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/pbJOQug.jpg)

Okay, the last time I played Vinnie Vincent Invasion in it's entirety was about 5 years ago in which I did a review for another forum. I swore at that time I would NEVER listen to this album again for a number of reasons. But here we are, 5 years later and I decided that I would give it another go and see what happens. I will say that this time around, instead of just listening to it once and than writing a review, I would give it at least 2 plays through and possibly more and see if anything stuck long term. Previous listening parties never allowed me to go more than just one spin around because my psyche just couldn't take the onslaught of notes, courtesy of Mr. Vincent. Before I get into song breakdowns (which I really don't do much of in my reviews because I rather focus on the album as a whole instead of snippets that make up the album), I will say that this debut can be summed up in the last 2 minutes of the final song (Invasion) of a guitar on a repeating loop. More on that in a bit.

Boyz Are Gonna Rock - Great opening feedback followed by a great riff that any guitar player would and should learn. That's where the good times end. Robert Fleischman vocals are so over the top that it actuall overwhelms the guitar playing. Well, that is until the solo, which pretty much characterizes what's what wrong with the bulk of the album. It's so over the top ridiculous that there is no thought behind what he is playing. It's fast notes for the sake of fast notes. Same can be said for the outro solo as well. It's a shame because the chorus itself is actually quite catchy and would be easy to hum it all day long.

Shoot U Full Of Love - The vocals are much better here with Rob dialing it down a bit and there is some melody going on here. This is one of the better tracks on the album and Vinnie's playing is fits within the context of the song with some great sustains working beneath the vocals. The guitar solo on the other hand has it's issues though. Not really a fan of his phrasing here, but it's short enough that it doesn't overwhelm the song itself and makes it listenable for sure.

No Substitute - Probably the best sounding drum track by Bobby Rock. Love the fullness of the song. The chorus is great. This should have been an easy hit song for the band. It's practically radio-friendly with the chorus. This is easily the best solo for Vinnie with the opening Whammy Dive Bombs and although he implores his trademark phrasing, he actually gives it some breathing room and makes it work with the context of the song. The song could easily be AOR if you wanted to put a label on it.

Animal - Great opening riff, another one that I would like to learn for myself. Drums sound great. Vocals are bombastic, but the sing along chorus makes listenable. The chord changes and riffs leading into the solo is fantastic. The solo.....not so much. This is a clear example of what is wrong with Vinnie being give the keys to the candy store. If he had shown restraint on his phrasing, the song would have been so much better. Same goes for the outro solo, which is redundant to say the least. Pointless.

Twisted - Love the drums on this one. It actually reminds me of that classic 80's sound, especially that of Steve Riley's from LA Guns. If there was ever a case for Vinnie to play super fast, it's this one. Because the tempo of the song dictates it, faster the better. Vinnie's phrasing is actually good and ironically short. The outro sounds like he is channeling Eddie Van Halen with his sonic wailing that is more for effect and not anything more than that. Rob's vocals are really good here.

Do You Wanna Make Love - The drums make this one sound like something that LA Guns could have done. But the chorus sounds like it could have been something that Def Leppard did, vocal wise with the harmonies. Probably Vinnie's most fun guitar playing as it's more wails instead of "lets see how fast I can pick" playing.

Back On The Street - To this day I still don't know why this song wasn't chosen as the lead single for Invasions debut. It's got Top 10 written all over it, especially in the days of Dial Up MTV. This song for sure would have gotten a lot of airplay both on TV and radio. The song is popular enough to have been covered countless times, most notably by John Norum. Now I'm singing the praises of this song, but it also has the most pointless guitar playing ever. A fantastic song reduced to sh*t as soon as Vinnie comes in. Had he played with some restraint, this could have been one of the best songs he ever wrote. He didn't....it's not. Maybe that's why the record company chose not to release this as the first single.

I Wanna Be Your Victim - Great riff. Sh*t man, I'm hearing a lot of LA Guns on this album which I never heard before. Beyond the riff and drum sound, I'm hearing some Phil Lewis in Rob's vocals. The riif sounds like vintage Tracii Guns for sure. I swear this has to be a LA Guns song. Solo sucks. Same sh*t, different song. Come on Vinnie, let your notes breath. I get it, you're fast.

Baby-O - Filler track and even though it has a cool riff, the song is undermined by Vinnie's playing. It's like he just lifted the solo from Boyz Are Gonna Rock because he was too busy suing people. Vinnie sure loves his stock phrasing. Not sure if restrained playing would have saved this song anyway.

Invasion - Awesome riff. It's Eye Of The Tiger.....but faster. It's a simple riff, but it sounds cool. The song itself though doesn't have much else going for it. Another filler track, although I do like Rob's vocals on this, especially the "chorus". Trying to remember another song or singer that this reminds me of as I've heard something very similar. Do I need to even talk about mindless soloing here? Not good. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the song at all. It sticks out like a sore thumb. As for the 2 minute guitar loop at the end, you can clearly tell that Vinnie had a hard on for Steve Stevens and was having fun playing with his not Ray Gun FX.

Okay, there ya have it. I listened to this back to back for the first time in my life, something I never thought I would do given the bad ratings I  gave last time. Something on the lines of 2 Stars out of 5. This time I will give it 3 Stars out of 5, which is an even bigger surprise for me. The songs are there and the album as a whole could have been a keeper had Vinnie just played within the songs rather than all over them to prove a point of being the fastest player out there.

Vinnie Vincent Invasion (All Systems Go) 1988
(http://i.imgur.com/PavQhZ0.gif)

(http://i.imgur.com/WiKqyfu.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/TJ3Rdrj.jpg)

The thing I said about Vinnie Vincent Invasion's Self-Title debut, is the same for All Systems Go as I haven't listened to this one for 5 years as well. But in the case of the debut, I've always liked this one a lot. It is worlds better than the previous effort for a couple of reasons. First off, Vinnie for the most part is playing what the song needs rather than trying to strangle it for the sake of showing off. Sure, there are a couple of songs that still have the distinct phrasing of his, but it's tempered and short enough to not totally dominate those songs. The other thing working in it's favor is that the album is produced better. It just sounds good where as the Self-Title album was too processed to my liking.

But the main reason I love this album is that it showcases that Vinnie can actually write some killer songs and the bonus is that each one has incredible guitar solos that are f*cking tasty as a Apple Pie. Even though it has been 5 years since I've listened to the album from start to finish, there are two songs in particular that I have listened to a handful of times every year since basically 1988. Those songs of course are Love Kills and That Time Of Year. It would be easy to label these as "Power Ballads", but that couldn't be further from the truth. Both songs, even though they may be slow by VV standards, have a lot of balls to it. Great production on both songs and the acoustic intros for each is definitely one I would like to learn for myself on the guitar. And the solos for both make me want to play guitar now. Both are short, but they both come up big in emotion. They soar and add to the songs awesomeness.

The other standout songs on All Systesm Go are Ashes to Ashes which has a great chorus to hum along too. Killer solo that excels. National Anthem / Let Freedom Rock is another great track. Love what Vinnie does with the National Anthem with the volume swells. It's fantastic. Let Freedom Rock has a great riff (I have since learned that this is the song that Vinnie stole. I haven't been able to dig up the original song on YouTube to check out for myself). Ecstasy is definitely a power ballad for sure, but it's good. Should have been a bigger hit as it was tailor made for the radio and MTV. The last two songs you should check out are The Meltdown, an instrumental for Bobby Rock on the drums. Very cool. It's different. The last song to close it out the album is the most refreshing thing here. It's an acoustic instrumental called Ya Know' I'm Pretty Shot. I love the song enough to want to learn this one on guitar as well. Overall, this album is aces and proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Vinnie is the real deal. If he had stayed the course here with another band, he could have been HUGE. After all the stuff that has gone down with him over the years, all we are left is "What could have been".

Vinnie Vincent (Euphoria) 1996
(http://i.imgur.com/mzsSogL.gif)

(http://i.imgur.com/L2QPH7l.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/1soNFmt.jpg)

Euphoria is basically an EP with the idea of "announcing the return of Vinnie Vincent". The EP itself was four completed songs for his forthcoming Guitarmageddon which sadly has never materialized. With all the crazy stuff he is involved online and suing KISS, the aforementioned album was NEVER gonna happen. Fans of VV and still hopeful that it will one day see the light and I can see why those fans want it to happen because there is definitely a shift in Vinnie's writing in this 4 song disc. He has progressed to a more harder edge sound that borrows from a few different styles (intentional or not). The songs are perfect, especially with Vinnie going back to the mentality that "faster is better". But the song structures are fantastic.

As I said, it's a harder VV style, incorporating a "thrash" mental vibe. It's very reminiscent of Industrial music and I do hear some Nine Inch Nails. Some of the parts also remind me a bit of Crystal Method. It's not a Techno record by any stretch here, but I do hear it hear and there. With Vinnie reuniting with Robert Fleischman (his Vinnie Vincent Invasion singer from their debut album), you know the vocals are going to be over the top again. Stylistically it's okay for me given the "new style" they were going for at the time. I really do like parts of each song and but it's frustrating as a listener to hear Vinnie going backwards when it comes to his lead playing. As a fan, I would want to see him expand as a songwriter and get over this obsession of being the fastest guitar player on the planet. With that said, I say this is definitely an EP to check out. For inquiring minds about what Vinnie did on Creatures:

Lead guitar and backing vocals on Saint and Sinner, Keep Me Comin', I Love It Loud, Killer, and War Machine. He also co-wrote I Still Love You, but does not play on the song.

The Long Kiss Goodbye: The Search for Vinnie Vincent (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/the-long-kiss-goodbye-the-search-for-vinnie-vincent-20140408)

Great read from start to finish and there were a couple of new things that I had never heard about till now. One being him smashing and then p*ssing on his guitar in the studio out of frustration and the other being that he actually tried to sell used 'Creatures of the Night' guitar picks for a whopping $1k....each. Yikes!

I just watched KISS' Hall of Fame Speech and I was really glad that Gene gave Vinnie credit for bringing something to KISS. You know, he really didn't have to, especially with all the lawsuits between the two. So, it was a nice gesture on his part for sure. Now lets hope this will get Vinnie back into the recording studio and releasing new music!!

Vinnie Vincent Pink V Guitar (http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINNIE-VINCENT-KISS-pink-1988-Jackson-signature-guitar-1-of-a-kind-autographed-/390679477425?pt=Guitar&hash=item5af64fbcb1)

This looks legit. I would think this would go for more than the asking price of 11k given the fact that it's from the original run back in '88, signed by the entire VVI band and looks to be in solid condition for its age. With that said, the most I'd pay for this would be 1k.

Holy sh*t! It just popped into my head about the guitar and I was wondering if this sold on eBay. Just checked and it went for $11,500.00!!!!! Whoa!!

Mark Slaughter Looks Back on the Band Mutiny That Ended the Vinnie Vincent Invasion (http://ultimateclassicrock.com/vinnie-vincent-invasion-end/)

Man, whenever I hear stories about what Vinnie could do, it just depresses the f*ck out of me that he would sabotage himself like that. I'd would have loved to have been in the same room with Iron Maiden and everyone else as he was was playing like Jeff Beck. This whole shredder mentality that he had about himself is the one thing I always hated and have pointed out on numerous occasions. He is so much more than that and there are moments of brilliance on a few select songs that prove that. What a shame. What a waste of talent. Sigh. I can't find the I can't find the Decible Geek Podcast with Mark. It might not be uploaded yet. Can't wait to hear it for myself.

Mark Slaughter Gives Some Not So Pretty Details on Vinnie Vincent

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUdT3jQdZsw&index=20&list=PLp2e7UfInEgmB-5r4rtQOEsq-H-mNmQhk

I heard about the interview last week over on Ultimate Classic Rock and of course I was anxious to hear the interview. The only problem is that it's these idiots are "Conducting" the interview. It's no secret that I can't stand them. They are stupid and just make watching this or any of their "episodes" a HUGE chore. It's always a clusterphuck in constantly talking over each other or trying to sound and act like a "journalist". They couldn't be further from that. The format is a train-wreck.  Here's a tip, have some question written down and stop trying to pull question from the top of your head. Amateurish. With that said, in spite of my issues with these guys, there wasn't anything that would keep me from hearing from Mark Slaughter regarding Vinnie Vincent. It's pretty eye opening and there were a few things I hadn't heard before. Mark himself was a great guest and pretty much owned this. I just wish I had a mute button that I could hit every time one of the other "reporters" opened their mouths.

For any fan of Vinnie or Drummers in general, this is a great read about how Bobby met up with and got the gig of a lifetime. I had no idea he was only 22 at the time. I thought for sure he was mid-30's when they hit the airwaves.

Here's Bobby's next installment of what appears will be an ongoing Blog post. Another fascinating read. Even though it's about Bobby's viewpoint regarding the recording sessions for their debut album, this article actually sheds light on Vinnie in ways never before. Now, this is very eye-opening stuff, because even back that then he was clearing suffering from OCD. This is beyond obsessive and explains why we have never heard anything new from him in the last 20 years or however f*cking long it has been. I never thought of this until tonight, but Vinnie and Brian Wilson are basically from the same school of thought and we all know the toll that befell Brian because of it. The same thing happened to Vinnie. Crazy ass sh*t for sure. Can't wait for Bobby's next blog. I'm glad he is doing this.

I thought some of the questions being thrown at Vinnie were disrespectful. You can see that 'pained' look on his face when hearing them as he tried to skip and move on. Check out the KISS Tribute show...Vinnie jams on a couple of tunes. And yes, that Cover Band suuuuuuuuuuucks!

I sort of hope Vinnie doesn't revisit the video.

I am nearly sure he won't do the new meet and greet Q and A when he remembers how big of douche bags kiss fans can be.

:)

hahaha

someone for sure will grill him (probably shouting it out) on the money owed for the box sets....that will make things REALLY uncomfortable

Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: Chiprocks1 on August 25, 2017, 09:10:34 am
Well, I think they need to have a Pro Moderator sit there and ask him stuff (not that guy in the video) who had no control or anything happening which just made it so people would start shouting at him. If they have a Moderator on hand, Vinnie would feel safe to go through this.
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: boyinblack80 on August 25, 2017, 09:28:32 am
I for sure hope so.

and look...the people who dropped the money on those box sets for sure have the right to ask...hey what's going on with that thing
and also since Vinne is CLEARLY getting paid for his appearance here...(at this new event) the argument could be made
that now would be a nice time to go through the books and get those refunds coming.

he could easily right the wrong over the next 2 years and maybe do say...5 of these KISS Konventions...pull in a few hundred grand
get everyone the refunds....and move forward with things.  Vinnie right now would be 65...he ain't no spring chicken.

anyone who...well here's the quote:

""Vinnie just officially apologized for the box sets. He blames a decline in his personal life and a lawsuit that caused things to fall apart on the project.

From the Q&A:

"I am so sorry that I caused you to stop believing in me."

Says he has been working to finish it over the last three months and hopes to finish it in 2018.

"Everyone who did buy it will get two copies and some really nice personal gifts from me as a thank you, and an 'I'm sorry, please forgive me'""

Blabbermouth article:

Ex-KISS Guitarist VINNIE VINCENT Gives First Interview In More Than 20 Years: 'If The Fans Want Me Back, I Can't Wait'
January 19, 2018

Ex-KISS Guitarist VINNIE VINCENT Gives First Interview In More Than 20 Years: 'If The Fans Want Me Back, I Can't Wait'
Earlier today (Friday, January 19) at the Atlanta KISS Expo 2018, former KISS guitarist Vinnie Vincent gave his first public interview in more than two decades when he spoke with SiriusXM's Eddie Trunk. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On why he decided to attend the KISS Expo:

Vinnie: "We have to thank [KISS Expo promoter] Derek Christopher, because he was relentless. He contacted Mark Nolan, my best friend and attorney. Derek spent eight months unrelenting — aggressiveness but nice. He was a really good guy, and I read his e-mails, I read everything that he'd sent Mark, and Mark and I talked. He said, 'This guy seems like a really good guy.' And he was. When we first talked with Derek, I said, 'I really like him. If I'm going to do this, I want to do this with somebody I like, with somebody who cares.'

"My life became small. I wanted to become as small as I could be. I became very happy, very content. All I do is I play, I write, I record, I take care of my dogs. I have a really private, peaceful life now, and I haven't had that in a long time. A lot of fans know a lot of things, but they also don't know a lot of things."

On whether he has any plans to dispel the biggest misconceptions about him:

Vinnie: "When it's ready to be told, you don't want to miss it. We've had two book publishers. We're talking to them right now. It's a hell of a book. You wouldn't want to miss it. I read Kitty Kelley's unauthorized biography of Frank Sinatra, and I'm not a reader, but I couldn't put that book down. This will top that book."

On what he's been doing since vanishing from the public eye:

Vinnie: "I spent 20 years in hell. The broad strokes were very... they could have been not so broad. They could have been quickly and really amicably could have eliminated 20 years of pain. I would say pertaining to KISS, these are my friends. These are guys I love. I love them to this day. I've got tremendous memories that are wonderful. Most of them are. Not always can you have a band and have a certain... I hate this word 'magic,' but it is a magic. It's something you can't put into words. THE BEATLES had that. THE WHO have it. [LED] ZEPPELIN had it. I always looked for that, and I never found it until I met them. It was something that, 'This is the glue. This is the ingredients that I never found.' It was everything you put into a mix that blows up. Good and bad.

On what percentage was "good," considering that Paul Stanley would occasionally berate him onstage for soloing for too long:

Vinnie: "All good. I was a newcomer, so I appreciate that advice. It was a time of being a guitarist, and that's what I wanted to be. That was my time. But working in context of what the band was, I'd say that I give them credit for knowing more than me.

On his ongoing legal battles with KISS:

Vinnie: "It was contractual. All of the problems we had were contractual. All I had asked for was to be treated fair — not much more than that. Publishing is like owning your house, owning your car. If you don't own it, you're leasing it, you're renting it. Then there's people that think that if they sit in your car, you're taking them for a drive, at some point, they'll turn around and say, I want your pink slip. It's down to ownership of your property. It's really simple. It's not more difficult than that. The people who say that's not important are usually the ones who want your property."

On his life today:

Vinnie: "I play about seven hours a day. I take care of my dogs. I write; I record; I do everything I've always done. I'm just not out in the public doing it."

On whether his appearance in Atlanta will lead to additional public appearances:

Vinnie: "I think if they want me back, I'll be back. I'm here. I've only left because the world has changed. People, the Internet have changed. People have gotten very mean. I just don't feel that anymore — I just want to have people leave and saying, 'I had such a great time. It was really nice.' This gives me a chance to finally leave the past behind, whatever was bad, and look forward to seeing whatever is there.

"Strange of all things, Probably the nicest thing that's happened is I heard from one of my old friends, Gene [Simmons]. I love Gene. In the early days, he treated me so supportive. Remember, where KISS was at in the days was, 'Here comes this kid.' I wanted to rule the world, and they have already ruled the world. I came and wanted to be as much help to this band as I could and bring whatever I could to them. I'm here to be whatever I can for this band. And I did feel with all my heart that this was everything I've ever wanted. There was nothing I wanted more than that in my life — nothing. They had a choice. There was people all over the world that would have done anything, and so I would have too. Something happened when we began to write songs together, and for whatever unhappiness there was, I think it was meant to be. I think everything that happened was very special, and I think the fans know it. I think it was a great chapter in the band's career.

"I have an e-mail address that I hadn't checked in about five years. It was an e-mail I only used for certain things that were going on business-wise, and once that business was done, I never checked it anymore. I don't know what caused me to do this — forces sometimes, they compel you to do something, you don't know why — Christmas night, I said, 'I better check this e-mail, just to see if it's still there.' I see three e-mails from Gene. I say, 'Isn't that great? How nice. I wonder what I did wrong now. [Laughs] I wonder what he's yelling me at for now.' I'm looking at the dates of these e-mails, and they're from June and July. This is Christmas night. I opened it up and it had to do with [Simmons's recently released box set] 'The Vault'. We had written a lot of songs during the 'Revenge' era, and I think there's one on there — one of my favorite songs, my own personal favorite songs, 'I Wanna Live'. This was June; he sent me another one two weeks later and gets no answer from me. Then he sends me another one in July, and there's no answer from Vinnie, basically about the same thing. I said, I bet that's why he's mad at me. I read all three e-mails, and I said [imitates typing], 'I love you; I miss you; come on home,' you know? Then we started emailing again. He said, 'I'd like to have 'I Wanna Live' on 'The Vault', and invited me to Nashville and receive it on stage and to meet each other again. I said to him, 'Listen, you said some stuff about me — come on, we're past this.' I said, 'I just want you to know, I still love you. I always will. We had a lot of good things. Let's move on.' The e-mail vibe was great."

On whether he accepted the invitation to appear at Simmons's Nashville stop of his promotional tour in support of "The Vault", which will take place on April 14:

Vinnie: "Absolutely. I will show up for him."

On how he feels about the two VINNIE VINCENT INVASION albums:

Vinnie: "I feel very strongly about them. The second record should have never happened. Rob [Fleischman] should have stayed with the project. The basic sound of that record was like [Jimmy] Page and [Robert] Plant — it was Rob and me. That first record was pretty red-hot. It was my vision; Rob singing; everything was just right. Second version of it should have been aborted, should have never happened. I had the power; I should have taken it. I should have called the shots, which should have been, 'Stop this. Revamp it. Go back, let me get the people I need.' The people that were involved with it at that time should have not been involved with it, but it was such a publicity machinery piece of... it was like a product. It was all publicity and hype. The songs, I felt were really good, but I didn't feel the music came out to be... the records weren't what I would have done. I would have never settled on records like that. When I say records, the first one, yes; the second one, no; and that singer [Mark Slaughter] was unbearable as far as I'm concerned."

On whether he'd consider returning to the stage:

Vinnie: "Absolutely. This is what I do. I've not stopped doing this. Publicly, if the fans want me back, I can't wait. This is what I've been waiting for anyway."

Vinnie Vincent joined KISS in 1982, replacing Ace Frehley. As the "Ankh Warrior," he toured with the group in support of "Creatures Of The Night", on which he played lead guitar on six songs prior to becoming an official member of the band. From there, KISS wrote and released "Lick It Up" — their first album without makeup — in 1983, a recording on which Vincent co-wrote eight of 10 songs, including the title track, which remains a staple of the group's live performances to this day.

Despite the album's success, Vincent was fired by KISS after the "Lick It Up" touring cycle came to an end, allegedly due to a dispute over both the terms of his employment contract with the band and royalties. From there, Vincent founded a new group, VINNIE VINCENT INVASION. The group recorded two albums, a self-titled 1986 release and 1988's "All Systems Go".

In 1992, Vincent re-teamed with KISS principals Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley to write three songs for their acclaimed album "Revenge", including the record's first two singles, "Unholy" and "I Just Wanna". Their relationship quickly soured once again, however. Four years later, Vincent released a solo EP, "Euphoria", which featured vocals by former VVI singer Fleischman and included material from sessions recorded around 1990. Soon after that, Vincent vanished from the public eye and remained off the grid for more than two decades.

In recent years, Vincent has been the subject of a number of unsubstantiated rumors about his gender identity, including that he has been cross-dressing and that he has undergone a sex change.

Last year, Vincent was the focus of a Swedish TV documentary called "KISS Och Gitarristen Som Försvann" ("KISS And The Guitarist Who Disappeared") which apparently tried, unsuccessfully, to track Vinnie down and get him to sit down for an interview.

Totally.  Vinnie said his first year in KISS he was getting $550 a week.

Jason Newsted in 1987 only got $500 a week in Metallica.(they paid him that amount for 1 full year in fact)

Me thinks Vinnie was spoiled.  ;)

No wonder he wouldnt sign their contract!!

Q&A is over. Man, I was riveted for the entire hour. There was one moment that worried me and made me feel a bit uncomfortable and that's when the Host asked Vinnie about the Box Set and Vinnie totally skirted the question and deflected by starting to talk about something else. This went on for about 20 minutes. But he eventually came back around to it (on his own mind you) and owned up to it and apologized for those that bought and never received it. I really hope he comes through and delivers on his promise to get this out. I want the Box Set for myself. If and when its officially out there... I for sure will buy it too.

Man, I can't wait for tomorrow's Q&A. Bring it on!!!

I totally noticed that with the box that question too. I thought for a second maybe I'd missed his answer. But I hadn't stopped watching so I knew it wasn't impossible.  I still highly doubt he'll ever finish the box set. But I'm hopeful.  I think his best answer on that would have just been I was caught up in a legal thing with kiss, and then I had so much personal stuff going on. When I tried to go back to it I had just lost all the momentum because so many years had gone by.  I also couldn't afford to refund the money so I was embarrassed.

Which honestly is probably exactly what happened.

Lol

This is an amazing weekend.

I swear, watching Vinnie playing acoustic (which no one has EVER seen him do) was like an out of body experience. Last night, we see a very different side of him with him opening up and pouring his heart out and now tonight, we see a new side to his music. Surreal is all I can say. Watching all of this unfold is like watching the blueprint to a movie that will be made down the road. THIS is his redemption moment and he's owning it right now. The cherry on top was having Robert Fleischman walk on stage, which was a total surprise for me. I just started playing the videos without reading the titles or descriptions....so I had no idea that was coming. When Vinnie was playing, I was saying to myself..."is that Robert in the background". I hope someone uploads a better video quality of the video in its entirety.

I do have a theory about why acoustic only...he can't play electric like he once did and maybe doesn't feel comfortable not being able to play super fast, which is what EVERYONE will be expecting him to do. Or....maybe he's just saving that for tomorrow as the Grand Finale.

Vinnie: (to the audience) Would you go to see KISS with Vinnie Vincent again?

Audience: Yeah!

This is what I've been waiting for. Just listening to Vinnie talking on Day 1, I knew this is where it was going because you can see Vinnie extended an olive branch to both Gene and Paul. I do think that this is going to be something Paul will never agree to....but with Gene, anything is possible when a lot of money there to be made and he will if course. Once Gene in his mind says this is the way to go...he will be unrelenting in trying to get Paul on board.

I like Vinnie cleared the air with everything.

I am sure it was very cathartic for him.

I do wish there was more music talk though honestly.

but I totally get he needed to say all that stuff...and there's no real "short" version
of those stories...so it's powerful and I think therapeutic he got that off his chest.

Good in theory, but remember, he has said over and over that he doesn't have any kind of Social Media accounts. His Lawyer and / or friends would have to set it up for him and stay on him to make sure he consistently uploads videos.
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: boyinblack80 on January 21, 2018, 01:03:43 pm
I know that...he does though contradict himself a bit here and there on just how savvy he is with online goings on.

so I don't totally believe him (just my two cents)

I think he does go online (or did) and there's enough I think proof of that (past his own words which he waffles back and forth making references to
things that will be online etc so it's like...are you online or not?  My dad is not online and knows jack sh$t about anything to do with it as a simple reference point
and he's about the same age as VV (approx 3 years older)  Vinnie clearly has been online based on his own words.

as for new music:
I don't see it happening sadly.  in terms of anything you will be able to buy on CD or MP3. (my personal belief)  He may finish the box set...but I don't think
he ever will.

I do think he will do more appearances and play at them.  I don't think his "I play 7 hours a day" is truthful personally
there wasn't really indication of that when he played...I wasn't expecting string skipping or fast runs, flowing arpeggios flying out of the guitar
etc. ...but you can tell when  someone is playing all the time or isn't/  He looked more like someone who might not be....but once was pretty adept on it./

Not hating on the guy but that sounded like a exaggeration.

I still think Vinnie is back.  I think he will stay out in the public do more interviews etc....he MIGHT finish that box set.

I think the idea of anything past 2 or 3 new songs...is probably unlikely...but I am hopeful I am wrong.

what are your thoughts on everything thus far?
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: Chiprocks1 on January 21, 2018, 08:42:51 pm
I agree that some of the stuff doesn't hold water. It's Vinnie. He has a history of embellishing if you will. There was one particular moment that he actually contradicted himself in regards to "playing 7 hours a day" in his Q&A session from Saturday. The guy (the big guy that was on stage moderating the event) is now really pushing hard for a VV Invasion reunion and he wants it to happen in 6 months. In one of the Q&A sessions with Robert, he was pressuring him to commit to that as well. So, we shall see if this actually happens. It would be interesting to see it happen, but the fact that Vinnie (as far as I know) never picked up or played an Electric Guitar at this Expo leaves me to believe that he can't play like he once did which in turns negates the whole "7 hours a day" comment he has been pushing.

I think it's ridiculous that "fans" that are calling into Eddie's show are whining about no one asking Vinnie if he's a dude or a woman. Seriously, WTF. Is that the most pressing thing they have to know about? Does it change your life one way or another knowing whatever answer he gives?

I've also heard some complaints online (not from  attendees of the con mind you) going "he didn't shred on electric guitar"

I don't think the point of this first appearance was anything more than a theraputic gesture and attempt by Vinnie to "come out" of his very small world.  I think people need to give him a little time.

Sorry I had to take my daughter to school so my post got kind of cut short. But yeah people that actually went to the convention saw the meet and greet. And then what was discussed after, what did they think, what were other people talking about, and their perceptions of the event first hand .  It should be interesting and there should be some pretty good posts that come up.

So, this just dropped 30 minutes ago. Apparently this happened 2 days ago and no one beyond this guy recorded and uploaded this? WTF! Watching it now, but disappointed this is the "best" vid we have so far. Seriously, why do people shoot in Portrait mode? Turn your camera horizontal and shoot in Landscape Mode! With that said, beggars can't be choosers. It's surreal seeing Vinnie and Gene sitting side by side after all these years. Paul can't not be happy about this. I'm thinking Paul gets kicked out of the band and everyone else rejoins the group and we put Bruce Kulick in the Starchild makeup.  ;D

I am curious why we have yet to see Vinnie playing on an Electric. So, I do wonder if he has lost his speed and dexterity to the point that to even try now is going to reveal diminished playing skills.
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: boyinblack80 on April 14, 2018, 12:18:43 pm
hahahaha

I KNOW  I just saw that part...Paul will be all pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tough to say but look age will get everyone and speed although for fast players is more of a coordination than like "speed" how I think of it

generally when they get that fast they are pretty relaxed all things considered...but I think he could build it back up to a passable level.
but it could just be a coincidence thus far he's not played electric.

Post by: Chiprocks1 on October 31, 2018, 06:35:37 am
Uh......that was not fun to watch. Vinnie looked petrified up there. For someone who made his entire career off of being a cocky motherf*cker, he was anything but. He looked lost and unsure of what to do. Yeah, I get it....he's got ring rust and hasn't performed in years. But if I knew that I would be in front of a crowd, you better believe I'm going to lock myself in a room and practice non-stop for a week before showtime. With that said, even before I clicked on the video, I knew it would be the basic KISS songs which would make it easier for him to play.....and he was still uncomfortable. The most painful thing to watch was Cold Gin. Him just standing there and pretending to "play" while the other guitar player was doing the playing was just.....sad.

As for that KISS interview, watched that the other day. Didn't get too far into it with Gene and Paul hogging the interview. Nobody wants to hear from them. It's all about Tommy and Eric. Duh!
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: boyinblack80 on October 31, 2018, 06:55:34 am
Yeah totally.  Why couldn't he play cold gin.  Honestly I suck and could have muscled through that.  He clearly hasnt been practicing or playing.  Not the crime of the century.  But he portrayed it as if he had been.   Not that lying is anything new for him.

And that KISS interview.  Still Paul retelling how bands in the 70's would wear jeans and just stand there.  It's almost 2020 Paul.   Its gotta be weird to hear them say that stuff over and over for Tommy and Eric who although collect the checks.  Dont seem as delusional as Gene and Paul!

Lol

Apparently Ace played with Kiss tonight.  I am on my phone but look for the video and drop it on the "can"  Tommy must be a little nervous.  My guess is it's only a song or two.  I saw a mention of Torpedo Girl...seems like an odd choice so that might have been a reference to something else...but apparently that was played live for the first time recently
Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: boyinblack80 on November 01, 2018, 06:26:30 am
Before I went to bed I saw Bruce also played with Kiss.  Not sure it was a full group (meaning including Ace,)  but they were all out of make up and pretty sure it was acoustic.Ace did 2000 man

Apparently he (Ace) did Torpedo Girl with his new band...aka Gene's solo band.  Sadly they learned the song and Ace had not.  Hahaha

Typical Ace.  Lazybones jones

Four By Fate / Vinnie Vincent Soundcheck 2018

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RjEb4E90N0

OMG! This is really sad and embarrassing. You want proof that Vinnie can no longer play? Here it is. A), this is a soundcheck and he still doesn't 'noodle' as is expected in a soundcheck capacity by a guitar player. B), Vinnie is literally being shown 'how to play' by the other guitar player. Embarrassing is putting it mildly. With that out of the way. Tod sounds f*cking great. F*ck a VV Reunion, get Frehley's Comet back together. We're already half way there with Tod and John Reagan in Four By Fate. Just need Ace and Anton Fig to complete this. Make it happen!

Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: boyinblack80 on December 04, 2018, 03:12:26 pm
ok so this is what I am thinking.....How many songs do you think Vinnie needs to learn by Feb....we'll assume he barely knows any of them anymore

I am guessing their set will be 1 hour with 2 or 3 encores adding up to about 1 hour 15 minute show.  So it's not like he needs to learn 30 songs or something./

what's the set list in your eyes?

Title: Re: Vinnie Vincent - Discography
Post by: Chiprocks1 on January 20, 2019, 01:03:28 pm
As I said before, the show will not happen. Ever. I saw all I needed to see during the "soundcheck" video. If he can't even rip off a 5 note run...or a 4 note run....or even a 2 note run. Well, there's you answer to his inability to play anything beyond simple chords. Does the Promoter bare some responsibility? Sure. The guy is a joke, but even the "best promoter" in the world is not going to be able to make Vinnie suddenly learn how to play again. This is squarely on Vinnie's shoulders. It's his burden to carry. He knew all along that he couldn't play and chose to announce a VV Reunion when he came back into the public eye. I get that he got caught up in the moment and wanted to extend the fan adulation for a few more minutes of his long-forgotten 15 minutes of fame. But the fact that he has been purposely dragging fans around by the nose since then knowing he can't deliver just shows he hasn't changed at all in the 20 years he's been hiding.

With that said, I would love to be proven wrong and to eat my words and a show actually happens. But this is Vinnie. I kinda already know how this story ends.

An open letter to Vinnie Vincent and management concerning the live shows in Nashville

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dfN2w_8eys&t=319s

This video, which came out before the news of the cancellation of the February shows, is quite good. Definitely watch it. As for why Guitars from Hell and Guitarmageddon wiill NEVER be released, Vinnie's biggest fear is that one person....probably the guy that buys it first is just going to rip the music and then upload it to YouTube and whatnot. So, Vinnie will NEVER release it because of that. His entire personae is about trying to make as much money for as little as possible. So, you can see why he is as paranoid as he is if he can't monetize his stuff like he was able to do before the invention of mp3's and Napster and all that jazz.

Eventually you get to.  There's a 2 person show that will be full shred.  1 million dollars per ticket.  Vinnie will not sign guitar bodies or parts.

nice.  I will check this out tomorrow for sure.  thanks for posting this!!

Vinnie probably will have this pulled down eventually because he'll second guess everything he's said once all the KISS message boards dissect every sentence he says.

he won't sleep for the next 10 days hitting refresh and waiting for people to comment at the facebook groups etc.,,,since they can't on Mitch's video/

he's NUTS!!!

This is why he is a narcissist multiplied by a 1000. He brings this sh*t on himself. For a recluse, he oddly wants to be the center of attention and then he complains, whines, b*tch and moans when people talk sh*t about him because he is scum and can't be trusted with anything. So, for him to do this interview is baffling to say the least for the very reason you said.

GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT

Yes, that's the name of my new Folk Band.

Geeze! Vinnie is laying it on way too thick. So full of himself. He's lying about mundane things that Mitch isn't even asking him about. So, apparently Vinnie "recorded" EVERY single show from the Creatures Tour and the Lick Up Tour. Bullsh*t! And....AND....he has 3 Albums ready to record. Sigh. Seriously, shut the f*ck up. He says he "hates" hype........what the f*ck do you think you're doing now? You're hyping stuff you say you have and stuff you say will have to give to your "fans". This interview is p*ssing me off big time right now.

FYI, don't think for one second that Vinnie doesn't read this thread. He's always trying to join Penny Can, but I see through his alias'. He will NEVER be allowed to join this site. He knows who you are. He knows who I am.

Same goes for Gene and Paul.

And Tommy really doesn't like it when I do Starbucks jokes at his expense.

Okay, Vinnie's recounting of his lawsuit with Gene and Paul is getting interesting........

Oh Brother. Why is Vinnie promoting a "show" in July? How about you actually get through the show you have in June before you start branching out? We all know how this story is going to end. Man, he just can't help himself.

Full Shredd Double-V Slaughtered

Haha! Mark playing a Vinnie Signature guitar and shredding at the same time is throwing the gauntlet down that Mark plays faster.....and cleaner than Vinnie will be able to do at the upcoming "concert". BTW, I have never seen Mark play like a shredder before.

So word on the street is that a whopping 6 people bought "tickets" to the Vinnie Con Job and apparently they have been given a full refund.

Told ya.

Vinnie is a f*cking douche bag. What is in that sick, depraved mind of his that tells him that it's okay to constantly lead his "fans" time and time again.
