I can't remember how the Trailer played when it first came out (no, I haven't even watched the very trailer posted above), but I do remember thinking this was going to be a great movie. Let me just say, Snitch doesn't suck....but it doesn't rock either (pun intended). When you pick up a Dwayne Johnson movie, you are expecting to get a certain kind of movie. Snitch isn't it. It's probably the most "un-Dwayne Jonnson" movie there is, Tooth Fairy notwithstanding. Honestly, I don't even know what kind of genre to put this in. It's certainly NOT an action movie, which is what I was expecting to get. It's NOT a thriller either. It's kind of a drama.....but NOT. It does have its foot in the Crime Genre, but it's not one that I would say it does the genre any justice.
Look, I'm a huge fan of Johnson. BIG TIME! But I think he was seriously miscast here. He wasn't bad. He's actually pretty good in it. My problem is that he is 'The Rock' and I expect him to be kicking ass and taking names. He's this big hulking guy, but he is playing someone that doesn't have super human strength or any kind of strength for that matter. I think the story itself would have benefited from having an Average Joe playing the father. Someone smaller. Someone that doesn't look like he can actually take care of himself if and when sh*t hit the fan. Still worth a Rent if you are okay with a very slow paced story, that really doesn't have a wow moment. Even the ending didn't particularly deliver in that fashion either. The movie is what is it. Nothing more....nothing less. One last thing, this was/is the first thing I have seen Melina Kanakaredes in since she left CSI: NY and that was like 4 years ago. Sheesh!
