Post by: Chiprocks1 on August 26, 2011, 01:01:37 pm
I sure hope that the producers of the show learned the mistake of Season 1 and go with people a little more accomplished musically. Just because it's a camp full of amateur players doesn't mean they have to settle for tone deaf singers on the show. This seasons counselors are: Duff McKagen (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver), Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses, The Cult) and Mark Hudson (Mega-Producer/Song Writer). Hosted by Kimberly Caldwell.

Special guest this season will include Paul Stanley (KISS), Phil Collen (Def Leppard) and Sammy Hagar (Montrose, Van Halen and Chickenfoot) among others.

Episode 1

So far, the group of players here is way better than Season 1. But that's not saying much because there are a few players in Season 2 that are just absolutely horrible. Katya is a train wreck. So, she continually blows her guitar parts and tells us that she hasn't practiced in 5 years as her excuse. Um, what the hell were you doing when you knew you were going to be on the show? Sheesh. Embarrassing.

The 3 bands competing are:

The Ex Hang Up performing I Fought The Law

The Bad Kick performing Suffragette City

The Spaceball Ricochet performing Bang A Gong

All 3 of the bands performing their first song were horrible. But the worst was The Spaceball Ricochet. Mark Hudson ftw ripping into his band and telling them they sucked. Boy, did they ever.

Added Episode Index

For whatever reason, VH1 Classic video links are broken and won't work on this site or anywhere for that matter. So, I'm posting the Index that has Episode 1. When the links are fixed, I will go back to posting individual episodes as before.

I'll have to check it out on the tv, my computer sucks I guess. It's like watching a slide show with the visuals.  >:(

Sometimes I forget that with my souped up PC and slick monitor, that other's may not have the same options when it comes to viewing experiences. If I wasn't happy with my set up, there is no way I would have given up cable.

Episode 2

Special Guest: Paul Stanley (KISS)

This is the acoustic episode where the 3 bands have to perform striped down and really focus on the song and in getting it right. During practice for all 3 bands, Paul Stanley really made them look absolutely bad because he brought his game and basically schooled them all.

The acoustic set as follows:

The Bad Kick performing Suffragette City and Can't Get Enough

The Ex Hang Up performing I Fought The Law and All Right Now

The Spaceball Ricochet performing Bang A Gong and Honky Tonk Woman

I gotta say that Bad Kick is one of the most uninspiring band ever. They suck. The singer is horrible with her Christina A. impersonation. Ugh.

Watching Starr rip into Jesse was awesome and well deserved. It seemed to do the trick because they (Spaceball Ricochet) went out and ad the best set of the night. They sounded great and they had a lot of energy. I think they are the band to beat here.

Episode 3

Special Guest: Marky Ramone

Now THIS ia the best episode of either Season 1 and Season 2. First with Marky Ramone stopping by, all 3 bands had to take their existing songs that they have learned and turn it into a punk song. Sounds so much better to my ears. But the meat and potatoes of this episode was that each band began work on writing their original songs. And let me tell ya, each song they came up with kicks ass. I was floored in how good the songs where. Still some rough edges that need to be worked on, but they all have potential to be top shelf songs. I really don't even know which song I like best. This is worlds apart from last season where only 1 band produced a worthy original song.

I'm gonna have to watch this episode again. This is actually a primer on how to take simple riffs and expand on it and build till you have something solid to hang your hat on.

FYI, Katya is a joke. She is going to try and dictate how to write a song when she herself can't even string 3 chords together?

Episode 4

Special Guest: Phil Collen

With Phil stopping by to help out, he promptly jumped on stage and took over vocal duties which is probably something the other singers wished had not happened. He made them all look really bad in the singing department. Phil is known mainly for his guitar work in Def Leppard, but in his side project he is in fact the lead singer and really good at it.

Later on, all 3 bands went to record their original songs with Mega Producer Eddie Kramer. Just like last season, I could watch him work all day long. It's amazing to see him direct the bands and get stuff out of them that they didn't know existed. More Eddie!!

Episode 5 (Season Finale)

Special Guest: Sammy Hagar

Easily the best Special Guest for Season 2 is Sammy. I'd want to hang out and jam with him and write a song or two with him if given the chance. As for the bands here, they each did a really good job on Hagar's songs: Rock Candy, I Can't Drive 55 and There's Only One Way to Rock.

This episode started off with a bang when Jesse and Starr literally tore each other a new one. Stuff like that is just going to tear apart any band, especially one that is only a week old. Their band The Spaceball Ricochets by Mark Hudson were the weakest of the 3. They had no energy or chemistry the entire season and I would never pay to see them play.

On the flip side, Duff McKagen's band The Ex Hangups were by far the best of the 3 and were very tight and in the pocket when performing. I would definitely go see them live, as long as they got rid of Katya who brought nothing to the band, except her own self manifested drama. :::sigh:::

Just like last season, they let the audience decide who this years winner would be to join on stage and jam with Sammy Hagar. And just like last season, the band with the most fans in attendance cheered the loudest, enabling their band to win: Matt Sorum's band, The Bad Kick. They are good, just not the best which I have The Ex Hangups being.

Well, that sounds like an unfair way of a band to win  :-\

It is. I was livid last season when I saw how they chose the winner. It's not based on merit but on who can get the most friends to show up. Having already gone down this road before, I knew before Season 2 even started that they would do it the same way. I had already mentally prepared myself that a lesser band would win so when it came to fruition, I wasn't as piiiised off this time around.
