My thoughts about The Wolverine pretty much echo how I feel about X-Men Origins: Wolverine (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/x-men-origins-wolverine-(2009)/msg11335/#msg11335). At the end of the movie, once again I'm left saying "what could have been". I'm kind of misleading you here a bit. I actually like the movie, I'm just waiting for that one particular X-Men film to get it completely perfect. Also, I think having the movie rated PG-13 kind of does the character a disservice. He's a feral character and it's definitely watered down here. I was very anxious to finally get to check out Wolverine and seeing Frank Miller and Chris Clairemont's classic story brought to the big screen was cool. But as a movie, I think they could have added more action during the first 2/3 of the movie. What we get are small doses before the big finale in the 3rd Act.

I do think that the Big Boss fight does have a lot going for it, even if it is predictable. You really don't even have to have read the book to know where this was going. And yet, I still enjoyed it. Hugh Jackman was once again great as the title character. How the f*ck does he manage to not age as he is getting older? He is more ripped and cut then he has ever been and it shows. The sub plot with Jean (Famke Janssen) was done very well. Be sure to stick around past mid-credits for the obligatory 'cameo' when Magento (Ian McKellen) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart) pop up, which sets up X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Getting back the film rating. The PG-13 version gets 3 1/2 Stars out of 5. But I'm still very much looking forward to checking out The Wolverine Unleashed Unrated Version (which my damn Library didn't have in stock), which will of course add stuff that the ratings boarded deemed "too violent" for a young audience. Once I get my hands on that Version, I will give an updated review....for better or worse. As for this one, I think the PG-13 version is worth a Rent. But if you get the chance, grab the R Rated Version instead.
